The Rug Hooker's Bible: The Best From 30 Years Of Jane Olson's Rugger's Roundtable

This is the most awesome, complete and clear rug hooking book you could find. Gene Shepherd it's absolutely amazing!!! The book is full of close-up pictures showing all the basic techniques, step by step, with detailed explanations. A bit of history is also included as well as different styles of hooking the same motif. There's a big section with directions, color photos and diagrams of the most common designs in rugs, like flowers, fruits and landscapes. It also includes a pattern of roses in original size. It's a wonderful book, full of tips and lovely designs. If I had bought it earlier I'd have saved a lot of money, this is by far the best I've read. If you want to buy just one book this is the one!

My friend has been doing rug hooking for some time now and it has always facinated me. Last year, she started me with a small kit and I have made 4 different rugs since. Since I have not been able to attend a class nor have had much time to get together with my friend, I thought it was time to get a book to better understand rug hooking and to know if I am doing it properly. This book has been very helpful with easy to understand instructions and pictures.

This is a fine book, informative, thorough, well illustrated. I have only one complaint about it, and that is that the old-fashioned way of hooking rugs is not included, ie, the so-called "primitive" method, done using a shuttle hook and thin strips of wool (usually from thrift shop clothing). There is no discussion of this fine old method, and I would have liked to have that included. Otherwise, an excellent book, great for ideas.

Practically every facet of the art of rug hooking is addressed and explained in a straight forward manner. This is a must have reference tool for anyone wanting to learn and refine rug hooking skills.

Love, Love, Love this book A very easy to understand book, lots of photos and hints. Beautiful photos. Easy to read. At first I borrowed it from a friend, and read it from cover to cover without even putting it down once. I liked it so much I had to buy one for myself for my library. Then I read it again...and again. I love it.

I first borrowed this title from my local library. After ten minutes, I realized what a goldmine this book was, and I made a dash for the Amazon website to find my own copy. It was a good move. This book is a keeper! From a discussion of fabrics, cutters, and hooks, the book moves on to technique. It provides really close-up photos of every step of the rug hooking process. If you're still learning the craft, you know how helpful this can be. There are patterns for, and photos of, many kinds of finished products; these are both helpful and inspirational. Finishing the product--from pillows to wallhangings to stand-up snowmen--is explained and demonstrated. Is this a trendy book? No. Is it a really, really helpful learn-the-basics-and-want-to-start-hooking-rugs-immediately book? You bet.

I bought this as a present for a rugmaking fanatic.She is delighted with the quality of the illustrations,content and advice and tips it contains.Suitable for matter's new and experienced alike.
