Written by a geek for a geek (or for anyone really)
The Geeks Guide to Dating is exactly what you would think, a how-to guide for geeks. I wish I had found this book before I met my boyfriend, it might have helped me to understand how my inner geek would relate to his inner geek - then again, as we are both geeks I'm going to get him to read it anyway. The best part about Eric Smith's how-to guide is that it is written by a geek for a geek and contains all sorts of hints, tips and advise for the dating (or wants to be dating) geek. Clearly written by someone who understands every level of geekdom there is, this book provides a great breakdown on the various levels of geek, from what each type of geek brings to the table in a both positive and negative sense and how to work around the potential opposite powers of each geek in the relationship. I think the most pleasure I got out of this book was the feeling of not being alone - and being able to quote Captain America in a book review and say "I understood that reference!"Yes I am a geek and proud of it and Eric's guide provides excellent advise from the moment a geek begins to think of dating right through to the first date/second date/possible future marriage/breakup. With tips from how to dress, what questions to ask, hygiene (I laughed myself silly here), when to initial contact and more importantly when to hold off on contact because the "player two" you have picked may be freaking out.I almost think this book could be used not just for dating but as a general how-to guide to love your inner geek, or how to love YOUR geek, or even how to love and accept the geek in your family - in fact - Eric, I think you need to get on that!I will be recommending this book to geek friends and non-geek friends - and yes, I will be making (asking) the boyfriend to read it too)

A light-hearted how-to on finding love as a geek...
I self-identify as a nerd more than a geek, but I thought this book was wonderfully funny. It mostly deals with the process of finding love, such as using online dating and managing awkward social skills, but there are some lovely tidbits about what to do once you've found your prince/princess. And speaking as a woman, I really appreciate all the notes about how women aren't *really* princesses that need rescuing, because unfortunately nerd culture still skews toward that type of story and a lot of men think that's what women want (definitely isn't!). This is definitely not a book for your average joe schmo, though; it is rich with references you'll only truly enjoy if you identify as a geek. If you "look inside" and don't get half of the references, you may not enjoy it all that much, but I encourage anyone who enjoys a little humor to give it a read.

Disappointed
Great premise. I really wanted to love this book. As a Geeky Girl the dating scene is rough and can be quite comical. When I saw this book with my favorite Mario Brothers and pink and turqouise color scheme I thought for sure it'd be a great fit for me. I was wrong. This entire guide is geared towards Geeky Men! Sure, it's cute and funny, but I was hoping it'd be gender neutral or atleast show both sides of the struggle.I give it 3 stars because it is still very visually appealing. I enjoyed flipping through it.

Sound advice
My only complaint is how it was so heavy on references. I know, it's supposed to be "Geeky", but the author was trying too hard. The best advice in the book is to listen! Listen, rather than merely wait for your turn to speak again.

Not quite perfect but quite useful
I liked the fact that there is not one kind of 'geek'/'nerd', there are actually multi-level classes of them for example music afficionado, collector, gamer... It really helped me understand what kind of person I am and how I can promote myself. I think some of the advice about actually finding people was a bit lacking, but it's still a good starting point to go forward.

A fun read with some good advice
I bought this for my teenage son, partly as a joke but also to reassure him about the world of dating which I think he finds a tad daunting! No idea if he has read it, but I found it a fun read with some actually quite useful snippets of advice on how to navigate the wild waters of dating, especially if you are still growing those all-important social skills!

good
Enjoyed it, well written for the specific type of person it was aimed at. Lots of little examples already known by most geeks
