On Writing Well

Content (*****) -- low-quality hardcover binding & paper (***)
Five stars (*****) -- a great book on writing.Three stars (***) -- the hardcover binding, on the other hand, is flimsy. Hardcover would fall apart with a little tug -- delicate -- not robust -- no heft. Grade of paper is see-through. Barnes & Noble turning into lazybones. I would not buy this edition again. I advise buying the softcover version although since I have not witnessed it, I don't know what I am talking about. All I know is that the hardcover is, well, disrespectful, and I would not buy again.

Great book for the beginning writer
William Zinsser's "On Writing Well," which first hit the market some 40 years ago, is a classic in the field. A worthwhile book for any writer or aspiring writer, its advice is most helpful to those who are starting their careers or avocations in writing. Among its topics are simplicity, clutter, style, audience, the lead, the ending, the interview, professional and business writing, humor, and sports. With such a broad range of topics, it's not surprising that none of them are covered in depth. But this is not the purpose of "On Writing Well." Rather, the purpose is to provide an overview of nonfiction writing as a whole. It does a great job of this, as witnessed by its staying power over the years.

Excellent for writers getting into long form content
Writers need to write to get better but often times we as writers forget or are too lazy to revisit our work to improve it, edit it. This is especially to sharpen your writing skills, and chop the unnecessary parts which we hold on to just because we wrote them. It's about writing with originality and writing for the reader. Excellent book to get you to start writing better.

Top pick for aspiring authors of non-fiction
My absolute favourite for writing non-fiction well. Most style guides are hard yakka. The difference in this book is that it is like a rare master conveying to his beloved students the secrets of writing well. The book itself is a demonstration of well-written text. The advice is understandable, relevant, and immediately helpful for all kinds of non-fiction. I found the book is so delightful that I read it, for pleasure, at the close of the day.

One of the best book ever written on writing well.
After going through this best selling classic on writing, I felt that I should have purchased this book decades before. A must for those who want to pursue their career in writing. Personally I found the language of the book somewhat tilting towards the tougher side. Still I think the students having English as a second language may go through it easily with the help of a good dictionary.
