Bought these to test my kids toys for lead. All the wood painted toys tested negative but a bell that was advertised as stainless steel tested positive. The cotton swab turned pink immediately on contact. I will probably be buying more because 10 went fast.

Works well. Living in an old house, it told the story of leaded paint.

These do not work. I tried these on a table that was built in 1950 and I'm almost positive it has lead. I tried it on antique chairs, and multiple other items that very very likely have lead. There was no reaction at all with this kit. I tried multiple times.

My son's science fair project was an A.

Like others have commented, it's a little hard to discern from the color change how much, if any, lead is in the tested item. I was testing a painted wooden toy from the 60's which seemed to have no lead in the paint, based on the color not changing very much. Honestly, it could have been cleaning off some of the pigment itself. Hard to say. I also tested a fishing weight as a control, and it was pretty clear that it tested positive for lead based on the color change.
