Sword Catcher: Discover the magical Sunday Times bestseller from the author of The Shadowhunter Chronicles: 1 (The Chronicles of Castellane, 1) : Clare, Cassandra: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Great read - Great read of a two part Review: Thoughtful, layered fantasy with a vibrant world and lots of political intrigue - This book took me quite a while to get through (I listened to the audiobook over a few weeks while doing housework) but I really enjoyed it. Kel and Lin were instantly likeable main characters, and the world-building hit that perfect balance - detailed enough to feel immersive without becoming difficult to keep track of. The story was slow-paced but intriguing, though I think if I'd read it more consistently rather than in short bursts, I might have found it to be a little too slow. I found the depiction of the Ashkar particularly interesting. Their situation - living as an isolated and often mistrusted diaspora community - felt like clear commentary on real-world Jewish history, and that added a meaningful layer to the world-building for me. My main disappointment was that Kel's role as the Sword Catcher didn't feel especially relevant for much of the story. Kel was able to slip away to do his own thing and leave the prince at risk so many times, and Conor managed to keep a fair few secrets from him despite their supposed closeness. However, overall, this is a thoughtful and layered fantasy that will appeal to readers who prefer careful world-building and political intrigue over fast-paced action.

Thoughtful, layered fantasy with a vibrant world and lots of political intrigue

Great theme great characters great read
Really enjoyed this book I did not want to put it down. Main characters are interesting and have depth. Story great and moves at a good pace. Really looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Plots, swords and sorcery.
Deep plots, quick bursts of action but some self analysis which was less enthralling. However, a fine read and I will be looking through the other books from this great author for my next read.

Not what I was expecting…
i have been a fan of cassandra clare for a looooong time and have grown up reading her YA series’ so when i heard she was coming out with her first adult fantasy, i was sooooo excited! i found it a little bit difficult to follow at the beginning, just because there are so many characters to remember but once i picked that up it wasn’t a problem. whilst i did enjoy the storyline and writing style of this book, the storyline of it felt much more like a verrryyy long prequel to a series rather than a first instalment of the series. i’ll still probably read ragpicker king when it comes out, but i very much hope that a little bit more will happen within the story otherwise i think ill find myself quite disappointed 😭

New world
I am no stranger to this author, I loved her Shadowhunter series and all the ones that link to it. (I have read all) But this book was Different and completely new world, I struggled to get into it at first apart from the title and knowing Kellian Saren is the princes Sword I was not sure what the book would be focussed on. So when reading it kind of felt all over the place when it comes to love not sure who was going to be the leads. Well clearly the book title is Kellian Saren/kel Aujuman he is taken as a boy at the beginning of the book aged 10 and told he will be Prince Conor Aurelians Sword Catcher (because he had nobody and looked alike) we follow him and his journey but we switch to Linnet (Lin) sometimes she is a doctor and granddaughter to Mayesh who works at the place.she is trying to save her friend Mariam who is dieing. But magic is forbidden but she will try anything to save her. Anyway don't want to give spoilers so moving on, we follow the two of them but possible love interests are not with each other (that why so confusing I think) the prince is showing interest with Lin and Kel well I think his feelings grows for Antonetta Alleyne a childhood friend of the place and possibly queen for Conor (yeah poor Kel) but there is paid sex going on with the men (to cold for me put me off book a little) but I moved on, took time but the book grows on you. Looks like next book is months away but titled The Ragpicker King he was in this book his name is Morettus Andreyen the bad guy but there is lines he doesn't cross.(so is he really bad) This book never really had a ending. It is complexed and takes a while to catch up but worth the read, it is aged for 18+ think its because of the visits to the brothel and the complexity of the story and world. (but brothel visits are PG a little not to in your face, so a younger person might be ok) It is war of a kind but not to bloody.

Utterly Brilliant!
So well written and completely immersive. The descriptions really take you into the world of this book. The myths entirely plausible and the characters realistically deep (and shallow) I’m keeping this short so I can grab the second book

This is an interesting and compelling read. It is a fantasy series with some magic and other fantasy elements, but it is not bogged down by a lot of new words and lore. It is an easy and engaging book. I cannot wait to read the third and final book in the series when it comes out.

Great book! Really hard to put down. The characters are all interesting, even the « bad » ones. I really enjoyed the book and have been waiting eagerly for the sequel. An original fantasy world, where magic has disappeared, except for a few items that still carry power, a lot of twists and turns in the story and nice love stories, though not too « soapy ». Would really recommend!

Another home run for Cassandra Clare. Her talent for world building and character development is unmatched. Cannot wait to see how the series plays out.

What an adventure! It is so fun to go into another Cassandra Clare world and loose yourself to imagination. This is a complex story that takes time to build but keeps you engaged on every page. Thanks for a great read! I can’t wait to continue the series.
