Angie Harmon stars as Jane Rizzoli, a police detective in Boston who is pulled into a case involving a serial killer that finds ways to antagonize and harm her. A native Bostonian, Jane is tough and part of a close-knit family. Sasha Alexander stars as Maura Isles, the methodical and blunt medical examiner who is more than a little attractive. Rizzoli and Isles are bonded by their dedication to work and their strong friendship

Glad I Took The Chance
I had never heard of the books this show is based on, hadn't even heard of the show - it was recommended to me here on Amazon - no doubt based on the large number of Law & Order DVD's I have lying around the house. But of all the actors who sat alongside Sam Waterston on that show, Angie Harmon was always my favourite - so I took the chance. She has actually more to do in this show, as a cop (Rizzoli) alongside Sasha Alexander as the Medical Examiner (Isles). In the extras the makers seemed to be suggesting they were doing something a bit different. Actually from the two female leads (I'm old enough to remember Cagney and Lacey) to the ME who tends to stray a bit beyond the job remit (RIP Jack Klugman) I don't honestly think there is anything here I haven't seen before. But I still really enjoyed it. For me this show's strength is it's cast. Even when the stories are on the thin side they keep it going. The two leads seem naturally comfortable together. There is nothing more painful than watching people who can't do comedy trying to do comedy - but they handle the light stuff really really well. The supporting cast also deserve a mention as they bring life to what could be one dimensional roles. The Boston setting makes an interesting change from the more familiar LA or New York. Oh, and Angie Harmon looks just as gorgeous now as she did over a decade ago....As long as you aren't expecting something too demanding I think there is very little here not to like. Will get Season 2.

Highly Recommended Crime Show
What started out as an okay series turned into a real watcher. Clearly the characters and actors/actress's developed as the series progressed and by time I got to the end I found myself immediately buying the next season as my wife and I loved it so much. The two leads within a few programs really start to work well together and they have that on screen relationship that not all shows manage. Someone else compared this to a modern day Cagney and Lacy and I'd say that was fairly close to the truth. Of course production values and set pieces are of higher quality and more realistic but the essence is there. One thing that I did find slightly irritating was the slight - very slight - hint of a potential lesbian thing happening. I suspect the writers and production were kind of leaving that option open as a possibility if they thought enough viewers would buy into it. By the end of the series this had gone away so I suspect they figured the audience was a bit too traditional for it.Each episode is it's own story and all are well written and interesting. There is a bit of a theme of political intrigue running along side the stories and a recurring serial killer as well.Overall a very well made, enjoyable crime show with engaging characters.

best series ever
This DVD is about a working class Boston detective and and an uptight Medical examiner who are angie harmon as Rizzoli (detective) and Sasha alexander (M.E) they work together to solve bostons homicides and the series covers the first ten episodes over 3 disks.there is the gritty underbelly of boston and pulls no punches and the two women have an easy relationship that sometimes is a little fraught but also with some humour and girly banter. to off set that though is one episode in particular where isles is kidnapped by a serial killer and the scenes are brutal but i will leave that there and the very last episode is a real cliff hanger full of action as a team of criminals take over the police station and the only ones available is Rizzoli with isles and rizzoli's cop brother who is brutally shot and left for dead. this episode is not for the faint hearted and the very last minute will leave you gasping in it's hard hitting ending and will want you to buy the next series to see how it all pans out

An ok series
As a Tess Gerritsen fan I was really looking forward to this, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed. The series was enjoyable, but it wasn't anything amazing really, and a lot is changed from the books - not necessarily a bad thing but can be irritating at times. I also felt that a lot of the police procedures seemed to be a bit iffy at times - taking crime scene evidence home in your pocket for example! And there is a bit of a tendency to overstate things - in one episode featuring a marathon they explain why the cant stop the marathon to one another again and again until you're totally fed up of hearing it.

Rizzoli and Isles
I watched this tv series and from the first episode I fell in love. Its brilliant to see two strong and clever women leading a cop program without falling back on clichéd behavioural types or over dramatizing the friendship between them. You get to watch two brilliant women who are clever and intelligent in two different ways solving crimes and seeing the friendship between them in a believable and realistic way. The friendship between the two of them makes the program even better while the storylines are simply superb. Brilliant casting and acting throughout the show, from the main characters to background characters, each episode is fantastic. Has simply side splitting humour in just the right places while you are on the edge of your seats with the drama.Would definitely recommend watching this series to anyone, you will just fall in love with it

Entertaining Series
I bought this for my daughter who really liked Sasha Alexander in NCIS and basically stopped watching after her character was terminated. This is a completely different series, two good female leads, good dialogue and an interesting positive take on female friendship. Of course there are all the usual cliche's of the genre but the overall package is entertaining and not massively offensive or patronising. Series One includes 10 episodes over 3 discs and two special features. Episodes are: See One, Do One, Teach One; Boston Strangler Redux; Sympathy for the Devil; She Works Hard for the Money; Money for Nothing; I Kissed a Girl; Born to Run; I'm Your Boogie Man; The Beast in Me; When the Gun Goes Bang,Bang. Special Features - Rizzoli & Isles: Bringing the Characters to Life; Rizzoli & Isles: Chicks in a Bottle; Unaired Scenes; Gag Reel.
