As an avid music lover and tech enthusiast, I recently purchased the Hipdac 3 (of course after researching a freaking lot and trying different DACs of similar price range like Fiio BTR 15), and it has transformed my listening experience.My Experience:The Hipdac 3 pairs perfectly with my IEMs, delivering a significant boost in sound quality.Pros -Sound Quality:The Hipdac 3 takes your music to a whole new level with enhanced clarity, detail, and depth. Each note sounds crystal clear and totally immersive. It features two awesome buttons: Bass and Power. Hit the Bass button, and your tunes get a punchy, bumpy boost that's perfect for bass heads. And when you press the Power button, your music skyrockets to an upbeat, dope new high… truely wow!Build Quality: It's compact, well-built, and portable, making it easy to carry around. The design is sleek and stylish.Battery Life: The battery life is impressive, lasting through long listening/watching sessions (around 4.5 hours is what I found after watching a couple of movies) without needing frequent recharges.The only downside is the initial learning curve to get the settings just right. And that’s my issue as I’m new to the world of DACs and IEMs.Overall:The iFi Hipdac 3 is a must-have for anyone looking to elevate their audio experience. Its sound quality and portability make it a top choice for music enthusiasts.

I was trying out the HIP DAC 2 for several days and was pretty impressed with the sound coming out of it. I have been testing it mainly with a Hifiman Edition XS, and it gives PLENTY of power especially with some 4.4mm balanced. The main complaint I had with the hip DAC 2 was the recessed blue USB cable. As a portable device, it was annoying having to have that very thick ugly blue cable going into the iPhone camera usb adapter, then into the iPhone. I had it for only a week and it already started losing tightness.This solves that. I now have one clean usb c to thunderbolt cable (that it comes with!) to the iPhone and that’s it. That alone, makes this the perfect DAC for me.I can’t tell a huge sound difference between the 2, but to me, it it sounds the same but has this USB it’s worth it.Now about the sound: I compared this to a FIIO A3 (Amp only) and a FIIO K7. I’m going to try and make this as simple as possible.Volume: It blows the A3 out of the water. The A3 powered the Edition XS… barely. It had to be turned all the way up and wasn’t even half as loud as the hip DAC. When compared to the FIIO K7, the Hip DAC gets louder, but on the edition XS it distorts at higher volumes, but volumes beyond what anyone should be listening to. The FIIO K7 got louder before distorting, but once again, way too loud. I listen to this at around half volume and it’s around the safe 60-80db levels (measured with a db meter). These should have no issue powering most headphones.Sound: No contest against my iPhone alone, or the A3. Compared to the K7, it seems to have a warmer tone with more bass, even without Xbass on. I really like the sound. The XBass button is awesome and adds a whole layer to the music, and I often toggle it on and off when needed. I also listened to my headphones on my Scarlett solo, and once again, it blew that out of the water volume and sound wise. Overall, fantastic sound if you don’t have another reference. Could a 800 dollar amp sound better? Idk maybe, but I’ve never heard one and don’t care to as this is already MILES better than any sound I’ve ever heard.Build: feels solid, and time will tell how it holds up. But I love its form factor, no wider or thicker than my phone. The volume knob feels nice and is very linear, unlike the K7 which had a really weird digital knob that had weird step ups in volume.I decided to send the FIIO K7 back, because this sounds as good as it, but I can plug it up to my iPhone and walk around the house, or take it with me places. I’d say the desktop DACs may give you an overall better, more neutral sound but it’s up to you whether you need the portability or not.Overall super happy with the purchase and highly recommend. An incredible upgrade over the FIIO A3 I have been using for 5 years.
