Three to Get Married

Great book on the theology of love
This is great book on the theology of love. It is very theoretical, and light on the practical side of things, but it will help you have a proper understanding of Christian love.

Great testament on God's love in a marriage
Great book that should be read by anyone considering getting married someday, already engaged, or married. Wonderful insight from soon to be Blessed Fulton Sheen! Thank God for this book!

Great book about love for the Married and Unmarried!
I am a huge fan of Fr. Fulton Sheen. When reading this book, I almost forgot that this author is now deceased and was famous for his black and white television show. Although this book was initially published in the 1950's, times may have changed but people still are made to live and die with the same biological needs to love and be loved. This book gives poetic justice to the longings of all of our hearts and how we can finally rest. This book was written by a religious without seeming evangelistic and preachy. As usual, Sheen writes in romantic, classical prose about the loving relationship between man and God, and man with woman, and for the sake of stewarding the family. Perhaps a person of any level (or with seemingly lost) spirituality can find solace and humanity in these pages. This is an easy read, that requires no knowledge or practice of religion. These are simply words that speak to the heart whether or not the reader is married or believes they are made for marriage. This books helps sooth the biggest and deepest ponders of the imperfections of being in human relationships during our search for something complete before we pass. This book can even help the childless understand their family of origin and any grieving of fantasy love objects. For whatever ruminations and maladaptations cannot be forgiven is repeated in our relationships.

A must read for marriage and preparation for it
Fulton Sheen is a relatable and yet mystical writer. The way he speaks of eternal truths is very understandable, with some patience to let him flesh out the full analogy. My husband and I have enjoyed reading this together through our engagement and early marriage, and have felt so consoled by God in the gifts and purpose of marriage, and His blessings on us in the sacrament. In this books, Fulton Sheen beautifully circles through the true meaning of our vows in marriage, for better and for worse, bearing fruit and fault, till death does part. I can't praise this soon-to-be-classic on marriage enough

very good book which every married couple or those intending to get married must read. It’s so easy to read and also challenges us to increase our spirituality if we are to understand marriage in God’s design of marriage.

Perfect gift for bride-to-be
I bought this book for my daughter who will be married soon and she absolutely loved it. Archbishop Fulton Sheen eloquently speaks of the indispensable place of God in the union of a man and a wife for a happy and fruitful marriage. The book is full of the wisdom a young couple needs to endure in love for a lifetime.Rather than getting swept away getting the external trappings of a wedding, this book is truly a gift that will last."It takes three to make love; not two: you, your spouse, and God. Without God people only suceed in bringing out the worst in one another. Lovers who have nothing else to do but love each other soon find there is nothing else. Without a central loyalty life in unfinished." ~Fulton J. Sheen"Love of self without love of God is selfishness; love of neighbor without love of God embraces only those who are pleasing to us, not those who are hateful." ~Fulton J. Sheen

great book
it is very good for marriage prep, although i find that this books asserts many truths without giving enough explanations ( it was written in 1952, that explains it !!!).It is easier to understand the points that are made without falling into the trap of "clichés" if you understand John Paul II theology of the body.I would advise to read this and also read John Paul II himself. For very ambitious people, there is the theology of the body. But you can also read "love and responsibility".THere are a much easier read but to my point of view they are not solid enough for mariage prep, especially for more ambitious readers: Sri, theology of the body for beginners, and Christopher West ( good news on sex and marriage).

Just a Pair of Talks, Not the Real Book
The title should have been a bit more descriptive of what this is. It tries to make you think you are getting the book, but you need to read the details to see it is just a pair of talks.

Not what I expected
I bought this book with high hopes. I I find that the book has no coherent flow of thought and ideas. The author talks about this, then that. The author introduces various concepts but I cannot say I understand what they mean. I cannot even relate to the examples the author gives. The book is more theory and lacks a practical aspect.I enjoy reading, and apart from the facts on the paper, I generally enjoy the creative style of the author and how they weave their message. For me, there is no creative style in this book.I read Love and Responsibility by Pope John Paul II which is as fine as they get in terms of explaining God in the context of love, sex and marriage. For me, any other book is going to work harder to explain the same.
