As for the supplement itself, Polygala tenuifolia (sometimes referred to as Yuan Zhi) is one of the most potent ‘nootropic’ supplements I’ve tried. A good amount of scientific evidence supports polygala as an antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and cognition improving plant. Clinical studies show evidence of reuptake inhibition of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Polygala has been shown to help mild depression very quickly, as well as chronic stress. Another mechanism of action seems to be related to NMDA antagonism (similar to newly available ketamine therapy). Polygala also shows evidence of increasing BDNF, or brain-derived neurotrophic factor, increasing cognition, memory, and anti-inflammatory neuroprotection. I recommend trying the supplement, it seems to have helped quite a bit with brain fog and chronic anxiety.

I wanted to try this supplement in an attempt to replace my ADHD meds. Initially I felt no difference day to day. However, after taking this consistently, I've noticed that I wasn't getting frustrated or overwhelmed as easily at work. I really loved this supplement, but I had to stop taking it because it gave me chest tightness and pain. I experimented and took a break from polygala, after including it again in my daily stack the chest pain returned. Really sad that this didn't work out for me.

I do believe these help my memory and productivity. No flavor as they are small capsules and swallow easily. I had a Chinese herbal doctor give me a mixed blend that had this for a main ingredient (for sleep and memory/cognitive). The doctor's herbs were expensive and I wondered if it would work to just buy the Polygala tenuifolia alone. I think they are definitely effective for the brain and being alert. I am 66 years old and still working. I will continue taking these. For sleep, I don't notice that I sleep better because of them but I only take 1 a day and before lunchtime for my work habits.

I use this in combination with L-serine adding to the nmda antagonistic effect. This promotes a background antidepressant effect that I simply would not have without it. Meaning, that care-free feeling that lets you let things go, this amplifies it. Hopefully will never run out of stock.

Took one pill and it messed up my stomach for over a week: bad cramping and diarrhea. Of course I can’t be sure it was this pill specifically, however, this was the only new thing added into my system & I will not be taking the chance of trying the pill again. I still have not made a full recovery.

Really was expecting something better, gave in 2 separate chances on 2 separate bottles. I’m only giving it a 3 because it does tend to do a little bit of something but in the end it wasn’t worth keeping in my supplement rotation.
