Over and Under the Snow

What a beautifully written and illustrated book! This will be a good book to use when teaching children about hibernation and what happens in the winter.

Recommended for Elementary school ages Kindergarten - First. Especially if you are studying hibernation. This is a beautifully illustrated book. One of my favorites for winter. There are coordinating worksheets on Teachers Pay Teachers if you are a teacher.

Got this for my two year old who loves to be read to at bed time. Although he loves the "Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt" the most but he is also only 2 lol. I want to get more of these books because I think as he gets older and my next child is out they will all be thoroughly enjoyed.Also a great and simplistic tool to engage and teach the little ones about the world, seasons, and animals.

I bought a couple books on animals in winter BUT those books ended up really being about animals in fall preparing for winter (which is NOT what I needed). I bought some books on animals living in the arctic or antarctic, but that is not really what I wanted for the winter season.THEN I found "Over and Under the Snow." This book is actually about animal behavior in winter (not preparing for winter during autumn). The animals tunnel and eat under the snow, footprints reveal where animals wondered or slept above ground, predators pounce through the snow to catch prey, and others hibernate till spring. The back of the book has further details on the animals.My only complaint is that the father and daughter have very different skin tones. It makes the father look ghostly and not alive in comparison to the daughter. This was not a big enough issue to lose the book a star.

Kate Messner invites people of all ages into this beautifully written text. The experience of two people sharing a winter adventure while learning about how animals survive in the snowy wilderness will delight all readers!

By far one of the best gifts I could have gotten for my nephew! Not only did he love the pictures, his parents also thought the book itself was great. Such a cute concept and educational enough for even babies to learn a little through the captivating art! I will be reordering and gifting this book to anyone I know with the little ones.

I gifted this book to my 5 year old nephew. I love the story, how it’s a dad and daughter cross country skiing, and they share glimpses of animal life under the snow. This book is excellent! The illustrations are lovely and the writing is absolutely beautiful. My kids (2 & 3yo) and I have read it over and over again since we received it. The story itself is very simple but the ideas have really intrigued my children. It arrived just after our first good snowfall, and my kids have been fascinated with the idea of animals living beneath the snow. Although my kids are still young, I can see older kids enjoying this, too - I’m an adult and I love reading it!

Disappointing. I had very good reviews of this book but the art work is not my cup of tea and the text is not great either. I returned it.

Beautifully illustrated, informative and engaging story.

Good book, just disappointed at the delivery. Need it for my reception class for a lesson I was doing, but didn’t arrive in time. Book is great tho
