lightweight and accurate
It seems like I have been doing major work to my house for the four years I've lived here, and I am not done yet. The kitchen needs to be gutted, the unfinished tiny basement needs built-in storage, and the garage needs interior walls to separate the workshop from the vehicle area! This tool is going to help me and my brother frame a few walls in the basement and garage, plus some built-in storage in both places, while the kitchen is going to be reconfigured somewhat. This is going to help us--me, mostly--with measurements as my math skills seem to be deteriorating with my aging! Since this is made of aluminum and not heavy steel, it is easy on the muscles. It is also very accurate; again, my math skills when measuring anything are deficient these days! It feels substantial in one's hands, yet doesn't weigh a ton, and is durable too, not warping or breaking/bending when dropped. It is going to improve my DIY skills, if not my math! Seeing that it has spaces to work with 6 different framing stud layouts from 14 to 24 inches, so it is imperative that you carefully watch which spaces you are using so you don't misframe anything! A great tool for a DIY'er like myself as well as experienced craftsmen/women!

Perfect for perfect positioning
I love this tool, it really helps with squaring up any framework I do, and helps with ensuring that the rest of the build goes smoothly and according to the plan. Super easy to use, very self explanatory.

24" spacing is out of spec
24" spacing is out of spec, Used it for spacing rafters and found that it jig was 24 1/4" on center.16 feet into framing, I noted the layout marks were progressively moving to the the left. Wouldn't recommend this for any building project.Unfortunately you can't make a zero star review

Essential. Period. Buy 2.
First off, most framing tools do 1, maybe 2 measurements. This one does 6 (!) standard measurements (12, 14,16, 18, and 24 inches), but you can sneak odd-balls in there, too, with different slots. It will also do 2" on center (you get about 1/4" gap between studs - think super-secure ultra-solid safe-room walls), 4" on center, and 6" on center.Think about that for a second. That's 8 different measurements! In one tool! You might NEED to frame in a bunch of 6" studs (building out window frames, for instance). If there's a measurement, it's been used, lol, and the fact I can eek 8 different measurements out of this makes it beyond handy. The build quality is excellent, too. It's a single piece of nicely cast aluminum, nice and thick. If you don't drop it on the hard ground all the time it should last forever. The handle is nice and smooth and easy on the hand. You could use it all day. I seriously couldn't be happier with how solid and well this is made.If you've ever framed a wall WITHOUT a framing tool like this, I can promise you that it's not a speedy nor pleasant task. I tried to think of an adequate way to express how much easier this tool makes the process if you've never used one, and it can be difficult when the difference is SO large, it becomes difficult to convey. You can say "Oh, it's SO much easier." And yet, sometimes that which seems like it might be enough to the eye of the reader, the writer, who has experience the difference first hand, says, "No. That doesn't do it justice." So I thought of a few short analogies, to properly express just how much faster and more pleasant using one of these is, versus not having one. Here they are.Having a framing tool, versus not having one, is like, the difference between the star ship Enterprise at warp factor 9, and a Galapagos tortoise on valium.Having a framing tool, versus not having one, is like the difference between trying to break up reinforced concrete with a pneumatic jackhammer, versus trying to use your thumbs.Having a framing tool, versus not having one, is like the difference between trying to dive 2,000 feet into the ocean in a nuclear submarine, versus trying to do it in a baby carriage.Yes. Yes, it is THAT much faster and better than trying to use carpenter squares and tape measures and pencils and sharpie markers and prayers and hope. Have I expressed how very useful this tool is, if you do any kind of framing carpentry? I hope so. I hope I've done my job here today. In short, this is just ideal. It's indispensable if you do this kind of work. EVER. Talking you frame a wall once every 5 years, you should buy one of these. Buy 2. Having 2 is better you can have your buddy working the other end of the wall and you build it together and voila it just comes out straight and correct. Seriously, worth every penny. EVERY penny.

Multiple functions you simply can't beat it!
Exactly what you need for framing, no need for other on center tools when you have this guy! Highly recommended. Great quality.

Made quick work of shed walls
Using this on one end of the framing while I worked on the other was way easier than doing it with one set of hands. Seems well made, and I love the multiple slots for different spacing.
