Great Big Book of Children's Games: Over 450 Indoor & Outdoor Games for Kids, Ages 3-14 Review: This book is wonderful, just what I wanted - I'm a father for a 5yo and an officer on our block association in a Brooklyn, NY neighborhood. We're having our block party in a few weeks, and thanks to this book we'll be featuring games of stickball, stoopball, hopscotch, jacks, four square, double dutch and more. When I bought it on desertcart, it was more than half price off, and I can't understand why, as it's worth every penny of its list price. This book helps continue great American traditions of childhood. Sweet and helpful illustrations, and authoritative and simple descriptions of classic games, variations on the rules, etc. I highly recommend it. Review: Wonderful book! - I got this book when I was having my 11 year old niece and her friend over for a few days in the summer. There are lots of ideas broken down by types of game (indoor, outdoor, chase, water etc.) and in the glossarie, you can also find games for a certain age group, or for a certain number of kids. It's a little old school, and reminds you of things you did when you were growing up, and exposes you to so much more. This is a truly great book if you find yourself having to entertain kids (or start them on something and let them entertain themselves). Wonderful if you want yoru kids to be doing something besides playing video games or watching t.v.

Great for keeping people off their phones
A lot of great ideas for a group of kids. With this book we have a great resource for games to keep the kids busy for hours. Would recommend to anyone who wants to engage with children, whether they are young or getting older. It's a great way to keep kids and adults off their phones and connect with others.

Impressive collection of game ideas
I come back to this book year after year. It's well organized and every game description includes the target age and number of players right at the beginning so you can decide quickly whether it might work for your situation. There are so many games listed it's easy to keep things fresh and there's always something to look forward to as the kids get older. I have used some of the games to reinforce math skills (card games, dice games) or develop thinking skills as an alternative to written work. Some games are just plain fun!

Great book for families.
My granddaughters, who I have the privilege of living with, are always wanting new games to play. We have a huge collection of board and card games but wanted more outdoor and physically active games, as well as mental games to play in the car on our many road trips and field trips. (We Home School so we spend a lot of time on the road for lessons). The girls have found a number of games they like playing and are always asking me to find something new. I keep this book, along with straws, and paper and scissors and bags of beans and other game "pieces" in a box in my room, so when we want to play a new game we have what we need handy. Lots of fun

Every parent, teacher, babysitter should own this book.
This book is awesome! I'm soooo glad they have it in soft back. I use to be a P.E. teacher and this book was sooo helpful with game ideas. This book saved my skin plenty of times. I even had a teacher burrow it from me to use for her daughters B-day party for activity ideas. It has ideas for inside, outside, lots of room, to no room, in the snow, the water or at a small table.

Needs more imagination & young kid games
I was hoping for more games for younger (under 5) kids, as well as suggestions for games that require the kids to use their imaginations. But there are lots of good cards games and lots of good suggestions for outdoor games.

Great Describes this Book
I was amazed at the scope of games in this book. All the games I remembered ( and many that I forgot) that I played when I was a youngster are described in this book. As a teacher who needs many choices for students to include movement, quick time fillers and FUN activities I think it will be a one stop resource!

I bought this book so that I would always have something to occupy my two granddaughters. There are so many simple games, most of which require very little in the way of equipment, and the children love them. It is such a change for them to play games that do not require a computer screen! A great buy for any parent or grandparent.

It is a very big book, and covers a lot of games. They are indexed by age groups as well as where they can be played (inside, outside), and even by "style" of game, making it the best indexed games book I've ever read. I wish there was more "history" to the games, so I could learn more about which countries they came from and how long they've been around, but with the size of the book, it's understandable that it properly focuses on the number of games and their rules. It's interesting to see some of the name and rules variations to other games I know. I would rather see photos than illustrations, most of which aren't very helpful. I use this book in my English classes in Japan, which limits the type of games we can play, but the book has a great variety -- I'm still able to use 20-30 games across the various age groups I teach.
