L’Oreal Paris Excellence Universal Nudes Permanent Hair Color, Ammonia Free Hair Dye for Gray Hair Coverage, 4N Natural Dark Brown, 1 Hair Dye Kit

This lightened my darker, previously dyed hair into a gorgeous golden light auburn brown—my hair really takes well to that pigment. I’m honestly so impressed. The color looks super natural and even, which surprised me since my bangs are very porous and usually turn out darker than the rest of my hair. Somehow this dye gave me a consistent result all over. I’m surprised it lightened my hair because it did seem quite damaged, so I didn’t think it was possible. I love the golden hue of this dye— it’s such a flattering tone. On top of that, my hair feels soft and healthy. With the ammonia-free Revlon, my hair always felt like straw and seemed more damaged afterward. But this dye left my hair feeling soft, not brittle, and that makes me so happy. It’s been about a week since I colored, and my hair still looks and feels great—no signs of the usual damage I’d expect after dyeing with revlon. This formula must be much gentler (though of course everyone’s hair can react differently I suppose?) I got the shade 7N and I truly love it. Please never change this formula, L’Oréal—it’s perfect! Update: I also tried the 6N light brown! If you leave it on a while, it will run quite dark like the other reviews say, but in my case it lightened up quick with hair washing! I think I'm going to stick with the 6N because in my case it was just a darker version of 7N which I like. But if you want to lighten hair, for sure go for the 7N or above. Anything under that, it will probably darken! I’ve also noticed, maybe it’s because I don’t do color care, the color does lighten over time on my hair, but I notice my hairs like this with any dye. My hairs happy so I’m happy, all I know is it’s better than the revlon I was using cuz my hair isn’t turning into a Sahara desert

This is my go to color now. I am a red head.. with some grays now that I am aging and this gets the stubborn grays and is closest to m y old natural color when younger. Red color fades fast.. so I recommend not washing as much .. and using a good dry shampoo. However this is my favorite new go to shade.

I last colored my hair with another brand, and it came out much darker than it was supposed to. With L’Oreal Excellence, I got the same color I saw on the box. Since it’s ammonia free, it didn’t stink and burn my nose, and it didn’t leave a stench afterward. With about 3” of gray roots and the rest colored prior, the result was uniform color from root to tip. I will definitely be using this brand and color next time. I couldn’t be more pleased with my result, and I would strongly recommend this brand and ammonia free formula.

I am really impressed with this color. I usually use Feria c74 but wanted to tone it down a bit from the neon orange copper. This is still bright and beautiful without being super artificial looking and it made my hair look highlighted without weird saturation strands. My hair is a very dishwater dark blonde naturally and I let my roots grow about 4 inches and let the previous color fade out and there is no line. You can't tell where my roots used to be. I also found with the cream formula instead of the liquid formula that its easier to get my roots first and spread it down a few inches that way, and then put a 1-2 inch section between my first and middle finger, squeeze color on and kind of squeegee it down the strand. I normally have to use 3 bottles because I have long thick hair but this method only used 2 bottles and it was completely saturated. I think this is going to be my go-to color now. It's way less expensive than my original color and I only need 1 bottle at a time if I keep up with it. I had to do a full color every time with c74 because it starts off so neon orange and it looked silly. I do with the cream color tubes were easier to squeeze color from. I felt like I was going to knock the bottle over so just be aware of that. And it didn't stain my skin at all.

Darker than expected, but very good coverage and the color is rich and shiny. Lots of compliments already.

Good gray coverage, however because I wash my hair often the grays come thru around my forehead area in less than 4 weeks. The brown is a beautiful color and helped me transition from the dark blonde into a rich, warm brown which is closer to my natural black hair color. Didn't dry my hair out and was glossy not dull and dry looking. I do not use heat so I am not sure how well it does on hair that uses heat. I am mousse and go.

The color looks perfect on me - super natural, not too warm or too cool - and it actually leaves my hair feeling hydrated instead of dry. I also love that it’s ammonia-free, because it doesn’t have that strong smell and it doesn’t irritate my scalp at all. The application is really easy, and I like that I can do it at home without stressing. Honestly, I feel like I found “my” color. I’ve already used it multiple times and I’ll keep buying it!

Love that this does not have ammonia in it. Definitely less harsh on my scalp (which is sensitive). However the color is not as significant. I thought I was getting a light brown color, but I still came out blonde.
