A great little HAM radio for the money
This little radio certainly packs a punch, so much so that I bought another. The GT5R comes preset to only allow receiving and transmission on the HAM radio frequencies giving peace of mind that you won’t fall foul of comms regulations. Bear in mind to transmit on these frequencies you will need to obtain your HAM radio licence, you are fine to listen however licence free. This radio is sturdy, constructed out of tactile textured plastic with rubber buttons. It features a lit LCD screen with customisable colour backlights. The antennas are also customisable to allow you to transmit and receive from further distances if you so wish, however I found the stock antenna to be more than capable. I would recommend watching some tutorial videos online to fully get the most out of your radio. Whilst it works straight out of the box the menus can be confusing without either reading the manual or watching tutorials. In summary I would definitely recommend these radios to anyone interested in HAM radio and for preppers alike.

Incorrect Power supply
This is the 3rd one of these radios I have purchased. The 1st was returned as the battery would not charge. The 2nd had the same issue and after reading previous reviews. I tried a different power supply and this worked. The 3rd radio (this purchase) again arrived with an incorrect power supply. The power supply being sent out with the unit is a 5v output. This needs to be a 10v output. The radio itself has no issue. You would think that the seller would have paid attention to previous reviews that mention the same issue. But clearly not

A tough one...
*** If your charging dock doesnt work, it's because the charger is bad/not powerful enough. Dig up one from a battery charger or similar that you may have round the house. I found a 12v 0.5A and it worked fine. *** I was always intrigued as a kid by radios and being able to transmit, the CB craze in the early 80's stoked my imagination as well as Smokey and the Bandit on constant video library rental. However, kit was always a bit specialist and rather expensive. Things change and now we can get little "intro" HAM radios such as this and finally listen in to the wonderful world of HAM radio and it's secrets. Well, this is a case where the imagination far outstrips the reality. First of all the radio is fine. Nice bit of kit. Solid, works well and after a few YouTube videos I was able to set it up and move around the frequencies and channels. The FM radio too is a handy little feature, not to mention the torch. Yes, dare not touch the PTT button in case...well nothing happens or is likely to but I play by the rules. Rules are there for a reason arent they? We have to preserve the sanctity of the airwaves! I dug up the local repeaters and found what frequencies are used for call ups and such and started listening. So what do you find? Well three things in order of occurance. 1. Masses of static or silence...like 98% of the time 2. The odd burst of Morse. 3. Two guys 'of a certain' age probably called Barry and Andy talking self conciously about the weather and that they are on the radio due to the wife being at the hairdressers. That's it. Yeah...I did upgrade the antenna too so... I have to say if thats what all the fuss is about, I can see the Govt. taking back the bandwidth and using it for something more useful. Certainly draws into question the need for a license if it's this forgotten about. Yes yes I know I don't know nothing and using the wrong kit etc. At least I only invested £35 in total. Interesting initially though and I have learned some stuff but, though probably not worth the effort long term. YMMV

Radio works great, charger unusable.
The radio is great, there's a reason that these are so popular. Unfortunately the charging station is supplied with a UK adapter that only supplies 5v when the dock needs 10v. This means the dock doesn't work at all and means you have to buy a new adapter. The seller is unwilling to replace the adapter and simply says to return it, but they dont seem to mind selling them with a defective charger.

Buyer beware..
The radio itself seemed to work, at least as long as the battery lasted. The included charger does not charge the radio and included headset doesn't work. The battery is now flat and with no way to charge the radio is useless. Also box wasn't sealed, and internal packaging was quite damaged, which leads me to believe this may have been a return. I will be returning this item.
