Remember The Night [DVD]

This is one of four films that Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyck starred in together, and it certainly doesn't disappoint. Unlike Double Indemnity, where Stanwyck was an outright Baddie, here she is a shoplifter, with redeeming features, not least a warm personality to add to a pretty face and a wicked mother who has made her the way she is. McMurray plays an ace (and unmarried) prosecutor who is determined to nail her for her (petty) crimes, but is quite happy for the court case to be postponed until after Christmas when the jury won't be in such a forgiving mood. However, being essentially good hearted, he decides to take her home to his kind and welcoming mother and aunt for the festive season, and the inevitable happens. The stars work beautifully together and the supporting cast are just as good, ensuring that the proceedings stay heart warming but not schmaltzy. All in all, a terrific movie for Christmas. Good print, too.

What can I say about this film that would best describe it. Brilliant might be a good word. It has everything. Comedy, romance, drama and finally pathos. Both Barbara Stanwyck and Fred McMurray enchant me as their love story gradually unfolds through out the story.I love it and highly recommed it to everyone but the cynical, and maybe even those would be converted.

Great story, great acting, a delight to watch. Quality is a bit blurry, but acceptable.
