Photo is deceptive! Do not buy this scale to weigh kittens - it doesn't work!
Not happy at all with this scale. I bought it to weigh orphaned kittens that I foster. I currently have NINE in my care and pay for everything but their medical care out of my own pocket, so money is TIGHT. You cannot get an accurate weight on a kitten like shown in this photo. First off, the scale area is far too small, even for a 4-6 week old kitten. If you do put a larger bowl on top that will fit the kitty and then put that on the scale, the weight won't stop flickering and goes up and down a lot.In summary, I wasted my money on this, money I don't have. I ended up having to borrow a scale from another foster mom in order to get accurate weights on my nine fosters until I can afford to go buy another scale that actually works. Extremely disappointed!!

Not for large breed puppies
My puppies outgrew this scale in a week and then if they moved, I couldn’t get a good weight... ever. And who has puppies that don’t squirm?? I have large breed dogs so I would say... not for large breed dogs. Maybe you and small breed. Shoot, they were actually too big for it at birth!

Fine to weigh food but not practical to weigh puppies
The balance itself is fine for weighting and does a good job weighing food or other non-moving matter and I would give it 5 stars for this job. But good luck trying to weight a wiggling puppy. May be the puppy has to be sedated before?

As long as you’re not weighing puppies that move much you’ll be fine with this.
This is not the deep tray that you see in the picture.It is a shallow wide tray that does not fit well on the base. The scale itself is fine other than the tray. I found I didn’t use it after the first couple days because it was difficult. Very small puppies would knock the tray off the base easily.

Not good for live animals.
Picture shows live animal. We needed to weigh live puppies but the display would not hold for weight as puppy moved!

Nice, but small! Good item for kitchen
Very small. I got it to weigh my new born pups, and it says that it weighs up to 11 lbs, but I couldn’t get them on there after they weighed about 5-6 lbs
