There are many versions of the pillbox style baseball cap prominently worn in the 1880's and 90's. That style has a simple 3 piece construction with a broad band of wool as the body, a circular top and flexible visor, The Chicago features most commonly two, but as many as 4 broad bands of contrasting fabric running horizontally around it. Typically the fabric bands represented the team color, while the body of the cap matched the uniform color. Over time many variations appeared.
