Incredibly good
I'm not a big reviewer of items I buy on Amazon or elsewhere, but in this case I feel I must register how exceptionally (and unexpectedly) good this stuff is. It's a clear gel with a very mild medicinal scent which basically forms a thin, transparent, flexible and breathable (water-based) film or membrane over the wound and my god does this make an incredible difference to how fast even nasty, open, festering wounds heal. My skin is hyper sensitive, super thin and super fragile and silly things which would cause the most superficial graze on normal people end up as a oversized, deep, bleeding and festering mess on me that takes several weeks or even months to heal. This happened recently on my upper inner thigh: an open wound nearly 3cm long and 1.5cm deep that was constantly rubbing against my other leg, my clothing and whatever I happened to be sitting on, and over a course of a week was getting worse and worse until it was dripping with pus and possibly infected (sorry if this is too much information). I was too embarrassed to go to the doctor given its location but very anxious as it was hurting so badly that I couldn't sleep and was in a constant sweat and it was getting ever worse by the day, and as mentioned above my skin just does not heal itself in anything like a normal fashion. The instructions inside this Savlon gel (which is indicated for 'minor' wounds, but my mum disputed that mine was 'minor' by this stage) said that it can be used on both dry and wet wounds (other products didn't specify this). I have applied it twice a day after my baths and put a gauze dressing over the top and it has been nothing short of miraculous. When I started using it the skin within the open wound was basically gooey, pus-ridden mush and had been for several days, and within 24 hours of using this Savlon gel it started to noticeably solidify/dry and show clear signs of stabilising and healing as well as a reduction in pain - amazing! 48 hours later and it was entirely solid (albeit still soft of coursse) with dramatic healing evident. 72 hours later and the difference is extraordinary - the skin where the wound is is level with my surrounding skin (previously it was gaping with what appeared to be several layers of skin just gone or mushy and collapsed inward) and looks like new, pink, baby skin has formed over the wound and it no longer hurts much. Given my usual timeframe for healing, this seems nothing short of miraculous. Of course I shall carry on using it for as long as I feel I need to. I did take daily photos so that I could track whether things were getting better or worse, and the photos clearly evidence the difference this Savlon gel has made, but I'm afraid the photos are too embarrassing to post. Before I bought this Savlon gel, I had tried the Elastoplast wound healing ointment which is literally nothing more than a tube of pure petroleum jelly and paraffin wax, with no added medicinal ingredients. It was somewhat useful to the extent that it formed a barrier that offered some modest protection to an open wound in a place where it was rubbing against all and sundry, thus preventing healing, and it also prevented dressings from sticking to the open, festering wound (this Savlon also prevents dressings from sticking to the wound, but the Savlon does not interfere with the adhesion of the self-adhesive tape as the Elastoplast did, which is win-win). But this Savlon gel is another animal entirely and streets ahead of the Elastoplast in terms of functioning and efficacy. This stuff would also be highly effective with open blisters.I can't recommend it enough; honestly, I didn't know money could buy something so good.

Repeat buyer for its effectiveness
This is the second tube I’ve bought and I’m a firm believer that something is good if you buy it again. The gel is clear, thick and soothing. I have open blisters so it can sting a little when applying but this goes off very quickly. It forms a thick skin over the wound that dries and protects. The main reason for a repeat buy is how quickly it aided the healing process. The gel speeds up the healing and makes the wound noticeably less sore. One thing I have learnt is to let it dry before covering it or applying any pressure. I applied it to a blister on my back and then (rather stupidly) sat down. My T-shirt stuck to my back and I had to gently peel it off. No damage done, it wasn’t stuck fast but it taught me to let it dry before letting anything touch it.Worth the price. A must have in the cupboard and holiday washing kit.

Very Runny, but Very effective for minor pain relief
Very Runny! The first thing you’ll notice when you get this is that the box is small, it’s 20g and it’s a very small tube - as you can hopefully see from the picture. The second thing you’ll notice is that when you press the tube to get some of the product out, it bubbles - touch these to any dry piece of kitchen paper etc and they’ll burst making application easier. Then you’re left with an extremely runny liquid like “gel”, this stuff could do with being thicker, more like treacle than watery. It feels less like a Gel - shower gel or hand soaps are far less runny than this, it’s more like a liquid. If you put a blob of it on a small cut or wound before you can put a plaster on, it will be running down your finger etc. Because of how runny it is, it also can soak through many types of plaster so you’ll want a waterproof/resistant type if you’re using this with a plaster. It’s easy enough to use, you just unscrew the cap, peel off the protective foil that seals it before its first use and then apply to small cuts/burns. I must admit I’m worried the cap may not be airtight enough and this could cause the gel inside to harden before its expiration date, so I have a long shelf life concern but - I think that’s why it’s in such small tubes.Apart from it being too runny ( you may be better off with a cream or ointment if this is an issue) it is far better than many other cuts/burn products because this - unlike original Savlon, contains “Lidocaine” which numbs skin and relieves pain. It is especially effective for small burns as it also contains a “menthol” like drug (it’s not menthol but has a similar feel) and this provides a “cooling” sensation when applied which can actually be very satisfying. If you’re worried about skin care I wouldn’t - if used with a plaster when you take it off wash your hands and it’s usually as good as new. I’ve noticed no skin reactions but we are all different so keep an eye on it.If you just want to rub some over an area of skin it will dry out and can be washed off, or peeled off in some cases! This is my Go-To product for burns, as the effects are almost instant and it helps keep the skin hydrated. But I prefer another product for cuts - a cream as it’s easier to spread evenly.Overall a great product, even with the bubbles and how watery it is, the tube could be bigger and that would be good for the cost - but it has to lose a star because of how watery it is, and how this complicates adding a plaster or causes it to run down your finger etc. Also the concern about its shelf life, it has a good few years but once opened may not last.
