Commentary on the Gospels of Matthew and John (4 Volume Set) (Latin-English Opera Omnia)

Written by the Angelic Doctor, himself, St Thomas Aquinas, this set is a translation of his commentaries on the Gospels of St. Mathew and St. John.Do not confuse this commentary with Aquinas' Catena Aurea. St Thomas collated the Gospel commentaries of many early Church fathers for the Catena, but Aquinas did not actually do any of the commentating. The Catena has been available for decades in English.This work on the other hand, is St. Thomas' own words on the meaning of the scripture. He does draw on the early fathers and quotes them regularly, but here he also include a deep theological explanation of the texts. This is the first time these commentaries have been translated and published in English. I've had the Maretti Latin publications of this work for years; but honestly, now it is so much easier to have the English translation.

Absolutely amazing. Forget any other commentary (I own several) and just by this one. St. Thomas Aquinas' insight into Divine Revelation is nothing short of miraculous, and in this four set volume you get in Latin and English access to one of the greatest theologians insights on Scripture. A must have for clergy, seminarians, and theologians, but none academics will also be able to benefit from these books as well.

I'm missing the Volumen of Matthew 1-2 , I got a second copy of the Comments on John 1-8 .

this set is just plain marvelous! easy format with latin/english layout. nice binding, consistant layout of not only the typeinside but alos the outside. They may a wonderful addition to any library.I find that the translation to be superb and easy to follow.I can't wait for the rest oft the Aquinas Insititutite's publications!
