Wonderful book. Very insightful and informative. This book works to illuminate a period of Somali history that is, for the most part, unknown by most people today. Great job Prof. Samatar!

This book contains a lot of informations that many people should know about the past. You may think you know enough about African leaders, but you need to read this book.

The book is not given enough information on Somalia and Ethiopia war in !964 which would be the most important political success of the given period.

author did lots of research and give us clear prospective about this two leaders.

Good book!

The book is a jewel, it talks not only about the process of Independence in an African country, the role of Europe and imperial Ethiopia in defining such artificial borders, knowing the conflicts they were going to create. It talks about ethical leadership and other qualities, that are disappearing in politics, if they ever existed. I recommend this book to everyone who is interested in political science, sociology and history of East Africa.

This one of the greatest book that I have read. Very uplifting and informative book for anyone interested in European colonization impact and early Somalia democracy.
