Monster: My True Story

Interesting
Fairly good read but a little disappointed. Too much repeated stories and very little information on the big story. She was definitely a troubled woman

Don’t expect anything revealing
The book was just ok. I did learn some things that were not shown in the movie. I would have liked to know more about the people around her. The book revealed nothing about her “adoption”, her family, or the woman who remained friends with her, until she was executed. To me, that would have been more interesting reading. It felt more like I was reading it from a police report. The book was from the UK, so a few words were different from those here. However, I also found a couple of pretty obvious spelling errors. As for the book and delivery, it took almost a month, and a trip around New Jersey, before it arrived here. I’m not sure what’s considered good vs excellent quality. The book showed obvious wear, but it served the purpose. It was a quick read and I’m satisfied with the purchase.

not in her own words
The title is misleading. This is NOT Aileen Wuornos' story in her own words but it is fairly exhaustive. Most of this information can be found in the online documentaries about her life, however. Still an interesting read.

NEVER HAD A CHANCE
This book was very interesting. Couldn’t put it down until I reached the end. Even though I knew the story of Aileen’s killing spree (and I know most won’t agree with me) but this girl NEVER had a chance for a normal, decent & happy life. She was set up from the very moment she was conceived. I actually found myself feeling very sorry for her. Her childhood was absolutely unforgivable & that is where it all starts! She was unlovable because she was unloved ... such a sad life. I hope she is at peace at last.

NOT...what you might be expecting.
So.. I saw this and thought wow they did finally put into print the biography that Aileen was attempting to write when she was on death row! Boy was I disappointed when I started to read it! This author is a hack, and not even a good one. Everything in this book is general knowledge as it has been told over and over and over AGAIN. Yes you get it in " her own words " words that have been taken from her police confession, news and newspaper interviews and the majority is excerpts from the trial. I expected more having read " Dear Dawn " letters to her childhood friend to which she mentioned many times that she was working on in her own "words" book , and with how poorly written this book was I thought it sounded possible. BUT NO! Don't waste your money, you won't read or learn anything new and the "in her own words " very misleading.

The way it was relayed to the reader. I've ...
The way it was relayed to the reader. I've read the 'dear dawn' book which had many of aileen;s personal letters written to her childhood friend and some of the things in this book did not describe some of her story accurately, but most of it was well written.

Good read
Although it was a good read I expected more input from Aileen than was in the book. Sad story but interesting enough that I read it in about 6 hours.

Interesting but basic.
Followers of the Aileen Wuornos case will be already familiar with all the info in this book. It reads as a short narrative of her life & crimes, focus on her crimes. The authors opinion of Wournos as a 'bad'/'evil' person is evident, so the book is not without bias, and does not go in-depth about the Wournos case. It doesn't even mention what consequences were met by the corrupt officers Munster, Binegar, & others involved in selling movie rights - skimming over these facts as if these corrupt officers were saints. Whatever Wournos's crimes, corruption did affect her case and thus is hardly mentioned, despite it playing a big role in Wuornos declining mental health. In all, an average book that sheds no new light. One would be better off buying Nick Broomfield documentaries on Wournos - it seems Berry-Dee took much of the content for this book from that documentary anyway.

Another brilliant book by Christopher Berry-Lee
I have a fascination with how the minds of psychopaths (or sociopaths, as they are now called), and serial killers work.Christopher Berry-Dee is brilliant at really getting to the core of the person, I feel like I understand them a little bit better, though I will never understand how anyone could take another human life. It's just something which intrigues me, and this Author is fantastic at really getting in to the mind of these sick individuals.

Chilling insight
I have read a few of Christopher Berry-Dee's other books and I will say that this one is by far the best. It does actually include parts written/said by Aileen Wuornos herself, though not as much as I would have liked. However, it was well written and a good exploration/re-telling of her life and crimes.

Very informative
A girl at work recommended this to me as she had seen the documentary and the film. This book is really good. Very informative. When I say the images of Tyria I didn't picture her to look like that. I thought she would be petite and pretty. Don't think I believe the whole self-defence aspect, though killing someone is wrong, not sure what I feel about the death penalty.

Excellent
Loved this book. Well written and not long and boring. Don't believe the self defence Aileen claimed for one minute but she did have a really bad upbringing which probably helped create the monster she turned into
