Diary of a Human Lie Detector: Facial Expressions in Love, Lust, and Lies

More than just a textbook on micro-expressions
Annie Sarnblad combines her encyclopedic knowledge of facial micro-expressions with memoir and poetry -an unusual mix, but for me, it works. The author has created a unique book that is extremely useful to be able to decipher people's emotional states. A glossary of photographs at the end helps the reader learn to match micro-expressions with specific emotions.

Anyone and everyone will appreciate this read.
This book is full of fascinating and scientifically-proven content that everyone will appreciate.Wonder if he likes you or is lying to you? Learn how to detect emotion in others by interpreting facial expressions --- which, by the way, is a cross-cultural phenomenon, since people of all colors and cultures across the globe produce the same mini movements across their face when feeling the same emotion. My favorite part of the book is the "Guess the Expression" part, where images of the author's face are shown so the reader can guess what she's feeling in that moment.A great purchase, you'll be glad you bought it.

What an awesome book! You will love it and it will change your life!
This book is amazing! I loved it! It teaches real how to recognize micro-expressions in other people and what they mean. These skills are so incredibly helpful in personal (especially romantic) interactions, and particularly helpful in business situations. The photos and tags make it really easy to learn, and the beautiful, personal stories from the author show real life applications. You will LOVE this book!!! Also a perfect gift to give for any friends or business colleagues.

A wonderful Look into Self-Discovery and Exploration of Self through Prose and Poetry
The book was a wonderful exploration of someone's journey in love and self-discovery. Not only does it represent it in a way that makes poetry and prose approachable (I studied literature, and this is a great way for people who may not like this type of art form to appreciate it). There are some good quotes, and it definitely feels like you can reflect and have mini conversations with the writer, creating your own points of clarification and exploration of what this person's journey has looked like and what your own journey looks or will look like.I highly recommend it.

Not what was expected
This is literally a diary. It contains poetry and personal quips about this woman. I want to return it.

Just a diary…
I really appreciate this author trying share her knowledge with her audience! However, I just thought this book would have much more to offer.I was thrown off by the fact that it was all explained as poems. If you love poetry then this is the book for you.It truly was just like a diary. I had a different idea in mind after seeing her in a couple of podcasts. It doesn’t take away from the fact that her knowledge is super valuable. Its just my opinion

Don’t we all wish we could read someone else’s diary?
This book is a collection of raw, honest poetry and stories with teachings about facial expressions and a glossary of expression photographs. Beyond microexpressions, the emotional lessons in Annie’s book are incredibly powerful. She shows through her personal reflections the gift of loving your work, how to care well for others, and how to tend to your complex inner world. She also demonstrates how much easier it is to learn something when the teaching is cloaked in fun.

Once you see the patterns, you cannot unsee
I needed this book years ago. Its a tool to learn facial patterns. Its got a lot of love poems throughout which I usually enjoy but I had a recent break up with a long term partner so it was impossible to get thru without crying and remembering our tender moments. I still give 5 stars because that's not the authors problem.

A deeply personal introduction to how to see and understand each other.
Alternating between sharing profound wisdom and joyfully (sometimes painfully) reflecting on a life filled with moments that might seem eerily familiar to anyone who has dared to live life on its emotional and practical edge, this book is mesmerizing. Part poetry, part autobiography, part "training manual," it offers you a fascinating introduction to how life can be understood through (small) expressions on people's faces. By using her own life as the book's narrative arc, the author opens an intimate, sometimes raw, heart-on-your-sleeve window that helps us understand and grapple with truly human phenomena such as love, loss, and when, how and why people sometimes are just so very people-y.
