Granddaughter‘s happiness
My granddaughter loves pretty stones. I got these for her for her birthday and she absolutely loves digging to get them out. I bought a special box to keep them all in will be purchasing more for her.

Better than National Geo!
Better than National Geo. I've bought sets from the before and I was hesitant to get an 'off brand' set. We love this set! It's so much fun having different colors to mine in. Also it comes with colored cards describing each of the stones. Win-Win.

Messy fun
These are so much fun to break open! Some planets have anywhere from 2-3 gems inside. I would suggest doing this outside, it gets kinda messy!

Messy but fun
My kids have had so much fun with this activity. They are definitely very messy/dusty but I love that each planet has a couple stones in them.

Great kit for young geologists and paleontologists
JoyCat Gemstone Dig Kit, Excavate 18 Gems from The Solar System, Space Planet Toys STEM Science Kits for Kids Age 6-8-12, Archaeology Geology Science Projects Christmas Birthday Gift for Boys GirlsThis Joycat kit is wonderful, from the beautifully illustrated box cover to the plentiful items inside. Granted, it can be difficult to describe as it contains an activity for uncovering gemstones, but also has a strong space theme. I just consider it as having twice the appeal. The two categories come together with the nine well wrapped orbs that contain the hidden gems. These are designed to look like our solar system’s nine planets and there is a booklet with quite a bit of information on space. Also included in the box are two sets of excavating tools, a mat for working on and containing any mess, a velvet bag for your minerals/gems, and 18 cards with photos and information about a variety of minerals/gems. The cards are made from lightweight cardboard, and are not laminated, so they need to be handled with care. The back of the card contains the name of the item, where it can be found, how hard it is based on Moh’s scale and a brief description. The cards are the only part of this kit that needed better quality control. There are errors on several of the cards including typos and incorrect identifications. For example, the card for pumice indicates that it is typically gray in color, but the photo on the card is that of scoria. It has some resemblance to pumice, but is a reddish brown color. The blue chalcedony card has a photo of sodalite, and the blue turquoise photo is actually of black turquoise. There may be more mix ups, and a child might not notice them, but they stood out to this former teacher of early childhood geology classes. I had a really hard time restraining myself from excavating one of the gems, but I promised my grandchildren that I wouldn’t open any of the orbs until they come to visit for the winter holidays. These are really tempting, and the kit is priced reasonably enough for me to order one just for them if I can’t resist!
