Semi-Automatic Fly Fishing Reel CNC Machined Aluminum with Drag Adjustment for Freshwater Lake River Trout Fishing

After the company provided the wrench the reel worked smoothly. I always test semi automatic fly reels by catching a big carp. The "NO NAME Amazon" semi automatic fly reel allowed me to land this carp with my 6 wt fiberglass rod. This is the best buy for your money. even with the limited space for backing, I was not completely "spooled" by this carp!

This reel appears to be a good value relative to other similar semi-automatic retrieve fly reels. However potential buyers should be aware that it has very limited line capacity. The max size and amount of line it will accommodate is ~80 ft (24 meters) of 4wt WF line. It is actually better suited for 2-3 wt WF line. The auto- retrieve arm works well, and it is an ok reel for ultra-lite 4wt rods and smaller.

If the drag adjustment does not work, like mine didn't, contact the seller for fairly easy repair instructions. Be aware that the spool screw is reverse threaded. Loose tolerances makes the spool and handle rattle while reeling. Very small spool capacity. A larger edition is needed for anything over a 3 weight. Otherwise, the winding lever gives the spool about 3 revolutions per pull and more if it has little resistance for free-spool. It should be fine for those who are looking for a micro Euro-nymphing or mono-rig reel.

First of all this is a good idea but did not meet my expectations for a couple of reasons. The biggest issue is it does not hold enough fly line and a big fish will strip the line out and the hard stop at the end will likely lose the fish when the line breaks. This would not be a problem in small waters with small fish but for bass fishing in the ponds and lakes it is a problem. The second issue is the reel worked OK for a week and then a retaining clip failed and the gear it held in place interfered with reeling in the line hitting the drag spring mechanism. I probably could have fixed this reel but it would still have the line issue and I didn't want to chance losing a fish of a lifetime..

The media could not be loaded. As others say, maybe 75-80 feet of 4 weight line without backing. That said, if you are fishing with 4 weight line, you aren’t likely to be catching big Browns that strip off a lot of line and get you into backing. More meaningful, there is a pin that holds the ‘trigger’ to the reel body. This pin is held in place merely by friction and mine was half way out when it arrived. It is very loose. I put a little super glue on it to hold it.

This reel, as many other people have mentioned, does not hold a lot of line. It’s not meant to. It’s meant for people that use a micro leader in euro nymphing. It looks pretty nice for 50 bucks and it works well so far. The tolerances between the spool, and the real could be tighter as sometimes a bit of mono escapes. I bought it to see if I wanted to use this type of real before I went out and spent three hundred dollars. I fished with it twice now and it does what it supposed to. It gets your mono in fast so you don’t get a tangled up when you hook a fish. it’s a little awkward using your pinky to pull the lever. If you have really small hands or are not into micro leaders pass on this.

Please make a reel foor higher wt rods 5 or 7.

I bought this in spite of a bad review, because its Amazon and... you know. I love it. If you are a fly fishing snob, this will not pass the friends gauntlet. However, if you fish for yourself and just like trouble free fly fishing, getting the line out of the current, away from your legs, and off the boat floor, you are going to love it.One caveat. I would only use this for light 3 or 4 weight lines. The spool is completely full without backing on a five weight. I wonder if this manufacturer makes a saltwater model and a model with a larger spool capacity?
