The Oprah Winfrey Show: Reflections on an American Legacy

This book is about the height and length of two books. It takes two hands to read, but it is worth the effort for any Oprah fan or even a fan of beautiful photography. I can't comment enough about the grandeur and awe-inspiring splendor of the book - it's huge and comforting photos of people we've all come to know and love, the memories garnered up when seeing Oprah at her finest on the stage of the Oprah Show. I have never read a book this stunning.The book is, of course, about Oprah Winfrey, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and about some of the things that she's tried to teach and have definitely learned throughout her tenure as a talk show host. There are also testimonials as to what Oprah has meant to people and cultures over the past 25 years. For example, there is a statement made by the great Henry Louis Gates Jr. which tells of how he first heard of Oprah and why she is so important in his life personally. He gave the experience of when Oprah visited the PBS stage to have her ancestry researched in "African American Lives." It was a remarkable page of information, and Mr. Gates Jr. stood tall as a beautifully artistic portrait on the next page almost watching you as you read with the proverbial `family' tree behind him.This book is an experience! A must have for any Oprah fan!!!

Great review of Oprah's history on television as well as insights into many of her guests. I watched Oprah from 1986, when she started, until the end, and yes, as hokey as it sounds, I felt as if she was a part of my family. As we moved with careers over the years, she was a friendly face in new communities where we knew no one. There is also some behind-the-scenes information and that was really interesting. I have not always agreed with Oprah on book club choices, some of the favorite things and of course when she started becoming political. But, as "friends", you can agree to disagree. Overall, I enjoyed my association with her show and what she strived to do over the years; especially challenging all of us to reach higher, to do better and to give back to the world. She not only preached this, but backed up that with her actions. Great book, I would recommend it to anyone who followed Oprah over the years.

This book was on sale for less than $4. I was a fan of the show and thought it would be nice as a coffee table addition, so I ordered it. Little did I know the treasure I would receive. This hardcover book is HUGE. I mean HUGE. And it is filled with great, insightful photos of life in front of and behind the camera at The Oprah Winfrey Show. This book is guaranteed to draw attention in your home. You will learn so much by reading the book. I am an Oprah fan. Growing up as a black woman in Chicago while her show was on the air, I have always found her presence inspiring and uplifting. But even if you feel differently, Oprah Winfrey will without question go down in history, and generations to come will know about the existence and impact of Oprah and her show. So it would be worth owning the book if not just for that reality. Check the book out (not sure if it is still at that sale price of four bucks).

The book is large, the pictures are beautiful and well-selected. I have it on my coffee table and every single person who sees it is drawn to it. The cover photo says it all: striking quality, class, & fit to honor a Queen.

I have never been an Oprah show fan but I like her and the things she does so when I saw this book on Amazon for such a remarkable price, I purchased one for myself and when I received it I was so impressed that I ordered 2 more for my grandmothers. The pictures in the book are vibrant and the book is a very easy read or glance through. It is a LARGE book (cocktail table book) and very well written and interesting.

i lived for the Oprah Winfrey show. having this book is like having a reminder of the happiness, the wisdom and joy each day brought me at 4PM.what an exceptional gift to yourself or a friend this christmas.

This one is a HUGE book, perfect to put on a coffe table. I would recommend it for anyone interested in television shows and/or Oprah Winfrey's work. The full price says it all: this one is a beautiful, great quality book and even though I brought a used one, it still came in perfect condition for a prize of a magazine. I'm really happy with this purchase.

Excellent read, easy to read with fitting and well written celebrity and non celebrity tributes worthy of one of my greatest role models and philanthropic mentor. Excellent book I would thoroughly recommend it.
