The mist (Der Nebel) - Interesting movie
This version of The Mist (Der nebel) limited edition has German and English audio but has only German subs, no English, it also says it in the description but I'm mentioning it here too in case you didn't notice. It has both mormal and black and white version (you find it in the extras). I purchased this edition specifically for the cool art but mostly for the black & white version which is totally worth it, once you watch that version I doubt you'll want to watch the colour ver. It is much creepier and gives different, better vibes, it's a whole new experience. Definitely worth it, I recommend you to buy it as well.

Silver-Screen Linings
Well. To start I have to say that most Stephen King material adapted from his novellas and short stories always appear to fit into the hour and a half/ 2 hour movie medium much better than his sprawling tomes. From his wealth of shorter pieces we have seen such fantastic cinema as The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me. The Mist can now be added to the list. While not as immediately crowd-pleasing, and not half as successful as Shawshank, from a critical standpoint, this is its equal in strength despite varying wildly in subject and tone.It is the basic, old Dr Who staple of base-under-siege plot. A mist comes while people are in a local Castle Rock supermarket after a storm forced a town-wide blackout, and there are hidden, dangerous things therein. So the townspeople have to stay in the supermarket. That's it. But it's the dynamics and interplay that occurs and evolves throughout the film concerning the relations of the townsfolk to each other that is the truly terrifying part. From the offset, chests are brandished and the men start fronting up to one another to not appear cowardly or stupid. Once the incredible truth is presented the bravuras come crashing down and they are stripped of all psychological trappings. They become merely human. And very fallible indeed. From then on it is crushing to see the ease with which the group begin to embrace savagery under a cloak of righteous pseudo-religious nonsense in order to save themselves. Bravery soon becomes cowardice as soon as real danger rears its head.Of course there is a small band of survivors, lead by the excellent Thomas Jane as David Drayton (the real humanity to the piece - but nicely understated). Despite the horrors that occur under the truly evil Mrs Carmody, they are relatively forgiving when they finally get the upper hand. I suppose the religious element could have been handled slightly less abruptly but it never feels unreal, scarily. There are a lot of deaths but also some nice surprising escapes, especially at the end. And the end. Well. One of cinema's greatest. It is both a happy and a sad ending whilst simultaneously being neither. If you get me? No questions are answered but there is a gulf of raw emotion that lingers while the beautiful 'Host of Seraphim' plays (the only real bit of music in the piece which helps drive the realism of the whole film). Stunning yet devastating.A final point to ponder: please get the 2 dvd set with the B & W feature as this is by far the superior version. It's not because of some arty-farty reason, it plainly just feels better when it is watched in black and white. It makes it authentic (as if you are truly watching a 50s b-movie) and it also makes the sometimes awful cgi look far better. Infact the colour edition will lose a star simply because some scenes are a bit laughable with the poor cgi effects. Watch the same scene in black and white and it's suddenly tense and frightening. Believe me.A film I can rewatch over and over. A true classic.

Its Comming
What a fantastic film, I have not seen a good creepy flick from the mind of mr King in a while so this film was a real treat.Thomas Jane heads a steller cast driven by Director Frank Darabont. After a huge storm hits the small village beach town of Main, the townspeople decide to stock up on resources at the local supermarket. While tending to their business a mist appears and swallows up the whole town leaving these people trapped in the supermarket and compleatly unaware as to whether life still exists outside. Not long after their question is answered as they start to fall prey to some creepy arse hungrey creatures.Based on a novel by Stephen King and brought to the screen by Frank darabont, The mist is a shocker The film works as a drama and a horror film perfectly along with the help of some fantastic performers. Thomas Jane, Laurie Holden, Andre Braugher,Marcia Gay Harden All give stand out performances. At times the film seemed to be like a play in a theatre and at other times just a movie but a great one.The scenery was fantastic, the dialogue flowed perfectly and the usuage of minimal music done nothing more than add to the fear and excitement you get from this film.Alfred Hitchcock done it for the Birds and now Mr. Darabont has done it for the Mist. The breakdown was also done very well it was excellent to see how all these people who live together turned on each other so quickly during the circumstances and kinda left you wondering who exactly is the monsters?the creatures outside are scary but the people in the store are vicious and viciousness comes no greater than Marcia Gay Harden who is fantastic as the crazy arse messiah religion and mental instability really does not work well for this cold hearted anti-christ, she makes Damien Thorn look like bob the builder. The Mist takes out a sample of Night Of The Livind Dead with the people trapped inside but instead of working together they all just turn on each other but this works exceedingly well for the film. All in all the film is one to definetly watch, the story the acting everything is great and works well the ending will most definetly leave you with your mouth open.Rent it Or Buy it but either way make sure you watch it.KevDaKitten.
