Q: Does it come with the screws?

Yes, lid stay have 6 screws for installation which you will find them in package.

Q: will this hinge allow a 23" wide lid (36" long) to open 90 degrees?

Grandson’s toy box was 42” wide x 22”. Son-in-Law confirmed the lid will open to 99 degrees. Lid closes as advertised. Use of the template with a bit of tinkering was required for my box as constructed with the 2” x 2” interior corner pieces.

Q: is this adjustable? The one I installed is difficult to close.

They are not adjustable. I found that the 2 I have close at different speeds and that they stay up till my lids are pushed down to about 70 degree then they start to close

Q: photos show lids with standard hinges in addition to these - are those extra hinges necessary?

I used a piano hinge with two slow close hinges.
