This filter DOESN’T seem to work at all for two baby turtles in a 20 gallon with only 7 1/2 gallons of water in it. I just changed the water the morning before I took this picture, less than 24 hours later the water should be crystal clear. Obviously it’s pretty nasty considering I feed them in a separate tank DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Let us start with the good. It arrived on time and came well packaged, the price is great if you are looking for a filter for a 5-10 gallon tank with less. It is indeed able to handle pumping shallow water take setups for turtles though I would not recommend it for that use.Now for the bad. The gph sits around 80-82 gph via testing even though the pump says 132gph max (500lh) this is insufficient for a 20-gallon tank as it advertises. Ideally, you would want 140-200gph or a minimum of 100gph for a 20-gallon tank and that is pushing it. Furthermore, the included biological media is nowhere near enough to be advisable for turtles or fish so purchase ceramic media to go with this if you intend to use this. I also can also say the bio sponge filter on the intake of the pump filter required rinsing as usual but it released an oily sheen to the water and when it came out of the packaging smelled of a strong plasticy chemical smell. The instructions are not great for someone new to the hobby so have to mark that down though it is simple enough to assemble.Now as advertised I cannot recommend this but if you had a 5-10 gallon tank for fish and wanted to put in some biological media from another source this would do well to achieve that task. Or if you wanted to use this on a 20-gallon tank with a turtle with less than a 2-inches carapace expect to change the water every few days or weekly I can say go ahead I do my water changes for my turtles and fish bi-weekly/monthly depending on that tank. You could also combine this with a sponge filter but that is not ideal for shallow water as this advertises. They always say you get what you paid for and while I received this via the Vine program I would not in good conscience recommend this product nor would I purchase it except for a 5-10 gallon fish tank for "clean" fish and 3 stars because it can be used in some circumstances on a budget.

I've tried several water filter pumps for my turtle, and this one is quiet enough to avoid scaring my turtles. So that's a HUGE PLUS for me. The suction pulls the floating debris toward it and allow me to clean up more easily. My only issue that the suction cups don't stick to my tank for some reason.

I waited a bit to do this review to allow time to assess this units function. It seems to be working well so far. It started up right away. My constructive criticisms are that it has a shorter cord than my previous units and thus, I could not place it in the same location. Also the instructions do not provide details on what to do with some of the included pieces, plus had a pretty huge typo in the title (see pic). While I can figure out what it is meant to be, it speaks to the overall quality of the item. I will update my review on durability after I've given it some time to work. Update: a month in and still working, despite a dirty-ish tank (compared to a traditional fish tank).

The product in hands looks different from what was ordered. The product on the box didn't match the physical product. No instructions and parts came with it that I have no idea where to use them. Also beem running it for a few days and the water is not getting any cleaner.

I ordered this filter for my turtle tank. We have a baby slider who was a little too much mess for the previous filter that came with the tank. She loves this filter. It does a much better job of keeping the water clean and she really enjoys laying under the little waterfall it creates. It seems to move quite a bit of water and it is easy to clean. Worked well for us.

This filter has a really nice flow rate for my smaller tank. The pre-filter strains out debris before water enters the pump. The main filters are good quality and easy to find aftermarket replacement filters for. There's plenty of room in the reservoir to add additional filter material. The top cover keeps debris from falling in and keeps algae growth to a minimum. My tank water stays clearer for longer and allows for more time before tank cleaning and water changes. The power cord has plenty of length. Overall, a great low water turtle tank filter.
