Product Description Something evil is stirring in the small mining town of Gold Lick, and it's not happy. Guan-di, the Chinese protector of the dead with a strange affinity for bean curd, has been awakened by reckless teenagers, and now his bloody crusade to wipe out the town's entire population can only be stopped by one man - Bruce Campbell (the guy who starred in all three Evil Dead movies and Bubba Ho-tep), B-move star and deadbeat ex-husband extraordinaire, who's recruited to be their unwitting savior. Thinking the whole scenario's a publicity prank, Bruce is distracted from his mission by a hot mom and fan boys aplenty-- but when our hero has to face off against a dark force more fearsome than a Hollywood agent, the laughs and screams start flying! Includes Collectible 24-page MY NAME IS BRUCE comic book insideSpecial Features: -Feature-length commentary with director/actor Bruce Campbell and producer Mike Richardson-Documentary: Heart of Dorkness The Making of My Name is Bruce-Featurettes: Bruce On..., Beyond Inside the Cave: The Making of CaveAlien 2, Kif s Korner, Awkward Moments with Kif, Love Birds, Hard Truth News from Hollywood The Real Bruce Campbell-CaveAlien 2 Trailer, My Name is Bruce Trailer-Poster Art Gallery, Props Art Gallery, Photo Gallery .com Cult film and TV star Bruce Campbell (Burn Notice) lampoons his own B-movie legacy with My Name is Bruce, an agreeably goofy horror-comedy which pits him--well, a version of him, anyway--against a malevolent Asian spirit in order to save a die-hard fan. Campbell also directed Bruce, and brings a loose, kitchen-sink vibe to the proceedings, which has teenager and die-hard Bruce Campbell fan Jeff (Taylor Sharp) kidnap his idol in order to save his small town from an ancient Chinese demon. Unfortunately, the movie Bruce Campbell is a broken-down, booze-swilling reprobate who lacks even an ounce of the insouciant charm of his screen persona in Evil Dead 2 or the Hercules series, and proves woefully inadequate in dispelling the monster. But as films ranging from Cat Ballou and My Favorite Year to Galaxy Quest and Three Amigos! have proven, the unwavering belief of a fan can bring out the hero in even the worst heel, and Bruce rises to the occasion in the picture's final third. Obviously, Bruce is slated towards fans of Campbell's eccentric screen c.v., and aficionados will undoubtedly appreciate the endless slew of nods to his previous films, as well as cameos by many of his co-stars, including Ted Raimi in multiple roles (one of which is a Chinese gentleman that gives Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's a run for his money in the stereotype department). Campbell himself remains the movie's chief selling point; his knack for physical humor (read: self-abuse) and pulpy line readings have lost none of their charm, which does much to override some of the flick's flotilla of stale gags. Campbell's sense of humor is also given free reign on the commentary track, which he shares with producer Mike Richardson; the DVD, which comes with a 24-page comic book adaptation from Dark Horse, also includes an amusing making-of featurette, as well as a spoofy tell-all mockumentary on the "real" Bruce Campbell, and a trailer for the atrocious film-within-a-film, Cavealien 2. -- Paul GaitaStills from My Name is Bruce (Click for larger image)

Bruce at his ... finest? Excellent!
I love Bruce Campbell, and if you don’t like his style, you definitely won’t like this. But, if you’re like me & love the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness series, or the Ash vs.The Evil Dead series, you’ll love this! Typical arrogance of Ash, but Bruce is playing “himself”. Same type of ridiculous macho humor, the same posturing silliness, the same Bruce “Don’t call me Ash” Campbell!

Fun Movie -- but Definitely Mostly for Bruce Campbell Fans
I"m a so-so fan of Bruce Campbell....he does some awesome work and I've enjoyed him in several movies and TV series (he's fantastic in Burn Notice, for example). He's also done some stuff that isn't so excellent, and that's what THIS movie is a friendly spoof of.Bruce Campbell plays himself here, as the only "expert monster hunter" a teen-aged fan of his movies can think of to help their town battle an ancient curse. He's a rather stereotypical and shallow guy in this movie, an over-the-top B-grade actor more interested in scoring than being responsible for anything. It's a fun enough ride, a spoof of many of his B-grade movies with lots of inside jokes for the hard core B.C fans. The special effects are schlocky but that's part of the charm and the spoof; it doesn't detract from the fun at all.I do think that folks who are NOT Bruce Campbell fans won't really be terribly impressed or think much of the movie, but for those who are it's great fun. Recommended for Bruce Campbell fans and anybody who enjoys campy "horror" movies.

Fun and entertaining.
I've been a fan of Bruce Campbell for over 20 yrs, I still remember taking my little kids to the VHS video rentals and first looking up his titles. I'm now a grandfather and still enjoy his 3 series horror classics. This movie was fun to watch if I didn't give it a five stars is because of these two annoying guys playing guitars in between scenes with a song about Guan Din, the Chinese God of War.The whole concept of the idea is great. As a fan I must congratulate Bruce for having the will power to take careof himself physically after all these years. A lot of middle age actors don't care about how they look in their middle age yearsbut Bruce hasn't changed much. What I can't understand is why Hollywood producers didn't give him the break that he deserved in his younger years. I mean here's a guy that looked better than most action heroes from the late eighties yet he ended up mostly with low budget productions. I'm just glad he got his best break with Army of Darkness. This movie is fun to watch and the effects are surprisingly great for having been shot in fairly confined area near his homein Oregon. If you're a real fan of Bruce, you have to watch this.

Grab some bean curd and pop corn!
If you love Bruce Campbell or like self mockery, this is worth a watch. Sure, it's not gonna win any awards as the most awesome movie ever made -- but for what it is, entertainment, it does well.Guan-Di and the sacred bean curd aside, the movie makes numerous fun of both B movies, Bruce Campbell and so on. Don't take it serious, just lean back and relax. Like Spaceballs, it kind of has this sense of humour you can't get rid of :-). To top it off the special features show what happens when people REALLY have some fun with creating special features.Since it's not a big, expensive production by Hollywood standards: I was a little concerned if the Blu-ray was worth it vs the DVD. The video quality is worth the extra couple bucks. Can't speak about the audio quality as I normally use headphones but no complaints. The video content is in H.264 at about 22 Mbit/s.

A Delirious Vehicle That Allows Campbell Fans to Relish In His Campy Greatness
Last night I had the privilege of seeing My Name is Bruce. Mr. Campbell was actually at the theatre to help promote the film. As a longtime Bruce fanatic I was overcome with child-like giddiness when he came out to answer questions. The man is THE definition of cool. If you ever have the chance to meet him do yourself a favor and go, you will not be disappointed! My Name is Bruce revolves around the plot that an accidentally awakened Chinese Demon is about to murder all the residents of a tiny Oregon town. A young teenager has convinced the authorities that their only hope is legendary B-Movie Star Bruce Campbell. It's completely ridiculous and an absolute riot at the same time. The main gag is that Bruce isn't a super cool, outgoing and appreciative movie star; rather he is a womanizing, drunken, cowardly douche-bag. Oh, and he has no clue that the Demon is real and not some elaborate ruse set up by his agent.Bruce plays "himself" way over the top and its pure joy to witness. It goes without saying that if you even remotely enjoy Campbell, you will love this film. From the director's chair, Campbell melds the slapstick horror humor of Army of Darkness with the brutal beheadings of Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow. My Name is Bruce is more funny than scary, but really the film is just a vehicle to allow fans to relish in the greatness of Campbell. Even though he runs the gamut of deplorable acts it's still easy to love him! Bruce eventually has a "coming of age" moment though it's still not that profound (and he remains a cantankerous scumbag pretty much till the bitter end). As an added treat you get not one, but three separate roles from the always dependable Ted Raimi. Sure goofy sound effects and hammed up acting normally make a movie unwatchable, but in this case it all adds to the campy charm. Experiencing this in a theatre packed with Campbell fanatics was merely icing on an already deliriously scrumptious cake.Preposterous, outlandish and absurd...these are all words that perfectly exemplify My Name is Bruce. Honestly, it's actually a compliment since that is exactly what the film-makers set out to create. Bruce Campbell's life and career IS absurd and ludicrous, so a movie about it would certainly need to dial it up to eleven. I could have used a little more gore, and perhaps a new Campbell catchphrase. Regardless, this coupled with Bubba Ho Tep proves that Bruce Campbell is still at the top of his game. Hail to the King, baby.Final Grade: A-

Hail to the chin, baby!
‘My Name is Bruce’ is one of those films that was definitely made for a niche audience – namely fans of Bruce Campbell. Now, if your reaction to that statement is ‘Who?’ then you’re probably not going to get that much out of this film. Unless you really love horror/slasher films, then there’s probably just about enough here to keep you entertained. But then, if you’re really that much of a fan of the genre, you should definitely be aware of Bruce Campbell by now! But, for those of you who don’t know, Bruce ‘the chin’ Campbell is primarily-known for his B-movie films and the ‘Evil Dead’ franchise in particular. He normally plays a cocky, slightly stupid hero who triumphs partly by luck and audience-love, rather than skill or virtue. In short, he’s a bit of a clutz. However, as the title suggests, his name – also – in the film, is ‘Bruce.’ And that’s because he’s effectively playing himself. Or at least the version of himself that has become his trademark over the years – namely the annoying, smart-a*se we see on screen. He’s an alcoholic, womanising, foul-mouthed idiot (who just so happens to be a B-movie star). However, despite his on screen persona, he has built up a loyal following of fans – all of which he treats like absolute dirt (I’m pleased to say that in real life Bruce is a great bloke and loves his fans!). So, when a town comes under attack from a particularly angry Chinese demonic bean god (yes, seriously) then one starry-eyed young lad who’s seen all Bruce’s films decides that his idol is the only person who can save the locals. How wrong he is.What you have is a pretty normal horror film – a largely cheap-looking monster runs amok in a small American town, slashing up anyone who isn’t really a main character. You’ve seen it all before and you’ve even seen Bruce Campbell in these types of films. However, what sets this one apart is Bruce himself. Naturally, whether the film succeeds or fails rests on his shoulders (or chin!) and, I’m pleased to say it does. The jokes are based around on the clichés you’d expect from not only the horror genre, but the types of films he’s starred in. He seems well up for running himself down and playing a particularly unlikeable version of himself in order to get the laughs. And fair play to him. He shows us what most celebrities are probably like in real life. The special effects aren’t that special. There’s not that much gore. And the sets look like… well, sets (but that’s probably to highlight just how much of a cheap B-movie you’re watching – or at least that’s what I tell myself). So, overall, you have a pretty average horror movie. Therefore, you’re only going to truly enjoy it if you’re a fan of Bruce himself. I’ve only just got round to reviewing this and I haven’t seen it for a few years. Since I last watched it I’ve also invested my time into Bruce’s current project – the TV series ‘Ash vs The Evil Dead.’ I can’t help but notice how some of the early episodes actually recycle a few jokes and situations, but that’s really for a review of the TV series (which I also recommend you watch if you like your horror gory and cheeky!).So, as I first said, what you have here is a film with a real niche audience. It’s not horrific or original enough to be remembered due to the content of its genre alone, only for Bruce Campbell’s input. Without him it would be nothing. However, luckily it does have him, so it’s awesome (like most things he’s in). Enjoy a nicely self-knowing so-bad-it’s-good little horror flick (and then watch Ash vs The Evil Dead!).

Not Bruce at his best
Not very good folk.I expected to love it as I enjoy Evil Dead and that was done on a low budget.Somehow this film seems even more low budget than evil dead. Also I didn’t like any character in the whole movie.I watched it all the way through as it wasn’t garbage but I sold it straight after watching it.

"You don't know fear, kid. You've never worked with Sam Raimi."
How big a fan of Bruce Campbell are you? I'm sure that will dictate how much you enjoy this. I happen to be a big fan and I really enjoyed this film. As much as I like it now, I didn't think much of it first time around. I'm not sure if it's because I just wasn't sure what to expect on first viewing, but it really has grown on me and I've found it more enjoyable with each viewing.Bruce Campbell shows that he's certainly not afraid to make fun of himself, neither is Ted Raimi in three roles. Also on show are several actors that appeared in the Evil Dead series, Ellen Sandweiss from Evil Dead, Dan Hicks from Evil Dead 2 and Timothy Patrick Quill from Army Of Darkness. I won't go into the plot, as you can just read the synopsis, but I will talk about the quality of the Blu-ray. Listening to the commentary from Campbell I believe the film was shot digitally, and the picture looks very sharp and vibrant. Considering the Blu-ray is very cheap, it's definitely worth getting instead of the DVD. Audio is DTS-HD master audio 5.1 and sounds very good. There were enough extras to keep me happy, especially the commentary from Campbell and the producer, Mike Richardson. I thought this was definitely an improvement on Man With The Screaming Brain, so I can't wait for Campbell's next directed project.

Bruce at his best plays Bruce at his worst
This is Bruce Campbell at his best, proving he is charismatic, funny and a much better actor than he is credited for. Much like Bubba Ho-Tep this film is massively under appreciated and it never ceases to make me smile!

Bruce Campbell - The B-Movie King!
If you are a fan of Bruce Campbell, you are likely to really enjoy this film. If you not familiar with his work, you would probably find this movie complete rubbish. The whole movie is basically a spoof of Bruce's film career, with x amount of references to his previous films. Some scenes are shot so badly it is delibrately forcing the fact upon you that this is a stereotypical b-movie. In this you will particularly enjoy the Cavealien extras on the disc. All in all, a fun film not to be taken at all seriously, the fact that you are paying next to nothing for it should suggest that this is certainly no Hollywood blockbuster. Enjoy!
