Cheap electric fence tester and beats getting shocked
Last year I had cats taking dumps in my garlic patch. I like cats, so I decided to erect a chicken wire mesh over the garlic and after some success, bought an electric fence energizer and this tester. The tester allows you to test branches of the fence and troubleshoot when things fail. The great thing is that its almost idiot proof. Lights are a little weak in the daytime, but you can shield with a hat if needed.

I am using it and that says a lot
Sometimes you get things, and don't take them out of the box for a few months, sometimes you take it out right away and use it once. This is easy to carry, works really well and we use it often. Keeps from getting zapped and quickly lets you know if the line is working or not. Great companion tool to have to keep your animals protected and safe.

If you like to mod stuff, it's a good buy, otherwise, avoid it.
If you're the kind of person who is happy to modify their own tools, you can make this a decent device for a good price in less than five minutes. If you're not a modder, I'd avoid purchasing this. This is a very simple analog device and should last a long time. It's basically just a series of neon bulbs and resistors connected to the leads. No batteries, no chips, nothing you wouldn't find in a device from the 60s. I consider that a plus. On the other hand, the case plastic and interior is the exact same color that the neon bulbs glow, making them very difficult to see in full daylight. I opened mine up and painted the interior surfaces black, and now it's much easier to read. If you are not comfortable doing that, there is another, similar analog tester listed here on Amazon with a black case. Now with that one, you'll probably want to paint the outside bright orange unless you want to loose it in the weeds. :)

Perfectly fine but don't leave it attached to the fence overnight?
Product is fine. I can see the neon bulbs day and night. I did have a problem. I left the unit attached to the fence over night and two resistors overheated and then opened and the unit stopped working. Now maybe the two things were unrelated and there was simply a neon bulb or something else went bad as it did work for a while after being left on the fence all night. I opened up the unit and confirmed the failure . I have also opened the replacement and noted the resistor values (look like 1/2W or more). Called the manufacture they were very helpful and directed me to get a replacement from Amazon since it was under 30 days. I kinda like it. It avoid s me using the "finger test" which I had to do to confirm that it was the tester and not the fence charger.

Cheap product
A cheap, borderline unusable product. The lights are all but impossible to see, I thought it didnt work until I tried it indoors in dim light. There has to be a better line tester out there, do not buy this one!

NO MORE URINATING MYESLF : )
Hello, I have a Koi pond in the back yard that was always being visited by raccoons. After I became fed up with them not paying me for the fish I decided it was time to get a electric fence around the perimeter of my property ( land mines were out of stock here :) The only problem is that I wanted to make sure that the fence was working. Sometimes they will get shorted out when they are strung a long ways and so I would reach up and touch the 3-4k volt line. The problem was that sometimes I would soil myself in the process and that is where this little gadget came into play. Now, I no longer shock myself and go through the embarassment of soilization. Get it. It works every time I use it and it wont cost you an arm or a leg!

Really works
The voltage tester really works. Hard to see the lights sometimes in bright sunlight, but that's to be expected.

Works, but.......
I did the paint it black trick as suggested; while I could barely read the unit in the daylight with partial shade, it was still necessary to further shade the unit with a piece or cardboard or whatever to clearly read the display. In my case, all lights blinked, but a review of questions asked indicates that it's ok. I assume I then have 7000 volts (or more) running through the system. I can recommend this item for casual users like myself, with only 250' of fencing (six wires on it). I'd go nuts if I felt obligated to use this on a daily basis like ranchers with miles of fence might.

Es bueno solo que checa muy pocos volts

Works great! Has to be overcast or later in the day to see lights better... but does what I want it to do

While it was informative to read the voltage on your line, the clicking sound of the electric fence controller tells you all you need to know.

I like this meter but the one thing that I wish would be better is the intensity of the lights. Hard to read in sunlight.

It give me a chance to see if it really works
