Or was he? His total oeuvre amounts to just 34 known works. Not particularly prolific for a great artist. But his great stuff is sublime and the Girl painting on the cover shown is out of this world. The book is lovely. A pleasure to own and treasure and perhaps maybe he cheated with Camera Obscura technique that allowed him to paint to the detail that it showed him ... but you've still got to craft it on the canvas and capture the glorious detail. He did that in spades and his legacy is art that takes your breath away in a book that presents all of his skill in full colour, gorgeous plates. Buy it and love it. I did!

At first glance its disappointing because of the illustrations. If Id picked this up in a shop I wouldnt have bought it. Might improve when wading through the text time will tell.

It was purchased as a birthday present for someone who had lost their copy in moving house. They were thrilled to pieces to receive the same book. So a positive outcome, thank you.

Informative and acceptably brief giving all the background you might seek at first call with a whole host of images...recommended.
