I'm a huge fan of this fan!
You're going to think I'm crazy but I own 6 of these fans. Well, technically I own 3 of the desk fans and 3 of the pedestal version but they're essentially the same fan. But, as with most consumer products, the features some people love will be hated by others. It just depends on your specific needs. One thing I think most people can appreciate in a product is its durability. I'm writing this review after more than 5 years of ownership, and can tell you that all my fans still function just as good as the day I bought them. My only complaint is that of the 6 fans I own, I think only two of them came with the required CR2032 battery for the remote (and one of those batteries was already dead and had to be replaced). It's a minor complaint that I'm willing to overlook given how great the fan is otherwise, but be prepared to purchase remote batteries separately. The reason why I love this fan so much is for the super quiet and gentle "sleep" mode. It's pretty much the only setting I use out of the 5 available. What I like about the mode is not because it's actually silent (fan noise doesn't bother me) but because the breeze is extremely slight. This is my preference for sleeping as I tend to sleep hot but too much air will make me cold. To this day I still haven't found another fan that has a setting comparable to the Rowenta. For me personally, this is the PERFECT sleep fan. But there are times when I do appreciate how quiet this thing is. And by quiet, I mean SILENT. I keep one of these in my home theater for when I get too hot but don't want a fan that makes distracting noise; I am AuDHD (autistic and ADHD) and have difficulty blocking out distractions and unwanted sensory stimuli in my environment. This fan does not overwhelm my senses the way others do, which is why I love them so much. I highly recommend this fan for anyone needing a desk fan. With 5 settings, this fan should accommodate nearly anyone: those who want a gentle breeze and those who want a hurricane in their face... Or both! Oh, and it's very stylish too!

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION STILL LIVES UP TO CLAIM
03 April 2023: This is an unsolicited, uncompensated 2nd review of the Rowenta VU2660 3-speed Table Fan with Remote Control. I last reviewed this same item on May 5, 2022. As before, I still rate the product with 5 stars for its quality and performance. Today we placed an order with amazon for our second fan. I am pleasantly surprised to see that the fan now costs about 10 dollars less than a year ago. Today also marks the day that we performed our first cleaning of this fan. As other owners have mentioned, it is relatively easy to use a Philips screw driver to loosen the one screw that holds the plastic band that keeps the front and rear grill cages together. Next, like most similar fans from other manufacturers, there is a knob with a reverse thread which holds the fan blade to the motor shaft. This is rotated CLOCKWISE to release the blade. Then, there is the plastic knob (with a 'normal' thread) that is turned COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to release the rear grill from the motor housing. After cleaned the blade and grills, it was time to re-assemble the fan. Now here is where things got frustrating. After attaching the rear grill and placing the blade back on the motor shaft, it was time to align the rear and front grills and place the plastic outer ring around them. All this while trying to screw the two ends of the plastic ring with the one Philips screw. This seemingly simple procedure requires three hands, and a lot of patience. Virtually every other table fan that I have owned utilized simple clips on the outer ring of the front grill, making it easy to align the two grills. The manufacturer of this fan should re-think their design and do away with the plastic band with the single screw. Aside from the re-assembly fiasco, this is still a great fan and highly recommended. My previous review is shown here: Purchased this product from amazon to replace a similar table fan, which had failed after about 20 years of use. For convenience, we sought out a replacement fan that included remote control capability. There were not many choices to choose from in this fan size. This fan, like the one it is replacing, will be used in our bedroom. It will be convenient to remotely control this fan from the comfort of our bed. To comment on other reviewers' comments: (1) the fan does require some assembly, but nothing beyond the skill of most people. The only problem encountered was with the single screw for tightening the front grill. It was difficult to turn at first, and it took a few twists to loosen up the threads. (2) some reviewers felt that the beeping sound was too loud when the functions were changed. One reviewer suggested pulling out the circuit board to disconnect the speaker. Personally I did not find the beeps too loud or annoying in any way. (3) Other reviewers complained that the retail price was too high. In many cases you get what you pay for. Yes, the fan contains a lot of plastic, but the motor housing is heavy and robust and appears to be of high quality. This fan claims to be "The Most Powerful, Quietest Fan" and I can readily attest to the validity of this claim. This fan is highly recommended for anyone needing a quality small table fan with the convenience of remote control capability.

Good quite fan with a few caveats, Overall I am satisfied
I recently just got the fan 5 speed fan. First, I will monitor for rust on the guard, but seeing the reviews of rust are all from high humidity areas (Hawaii, Florida, etc), wish more people would put where they are from when reviewing something that has finish defects like this. I am from SLC UT, low humidity, dry environment. Other than cars rusting due to salt sprayed on the road during the winter, I have never seen anything else rust here in the 40 years I have been here. That being said, the fan so far is great, decent wind movement and VERY quiet. I have several fans due to liking the feeling of a breeze inside. Yes my wind machine does move more air, but at a MUCH louder penalty. A few things that I could not find elsewhere. First, this fan is controlled by an IC. That being said, if you use it with an AC inverter, generator, or the like, it has to be a pure sine wave inverter, using a clipped or maybe (stress maybe) a modified sinewave will easily burn it up. I say maybe on the modified as I am not going to risk burning it up to find out. But other fans with logic will be damaged when anything other than a pure sinewave inverter is used. Another thing, and Jeff J Dunn hit on it during his one star review. The fans control board powers up in a nominally off state, IE, if power is removed and reapplied, you must “turn it on” and when turned on it starts in the med fan position. That being said, if you plan on using a KASA. TPlink, WEMO or other smart outlet it will not work, since when it turns on, the fan will stay off, IE defeating the purpose. For those of us like me who run it off a battery bank/ inverter/ solar, here are wattage requirements using my kill-a-watt for monitoring. Silent= (which is a waste of energy in my book as the airflow is so low) 11W, Low= 39W, Med= 49W, High= 60W, Turbo= 67W. Compare this to the wind machine which is a simply motor driven fan with no real logic, operates with smart outlets and draws 70/85/100W (L/M/H). This data may impact your purchase, so its better to know ahead of time. As many other pointed out, the remote does not come with a battery, but CR2032 batteries are dirt cheap and most people will keep a few around since you typically get 10 or so for $4-5 on Amazon easily. Not going to knock the vendor for not providing them, but its good to know up front and the remote is not needed for operation. The fan also comes completely disassembled (the cage and blade are not even mounted to the motor, mine came with instructions but its so easy to put together, they are not needed. The only odd ball thing is something that is molded to the center nut of the blade shaft, the threads here are reverse threaded, so think backwards on this threading ONLY. All others are standard thread rotation.

A very good fan
UPDATE: I wrote the review below in August 2024. Now, at the end of July 2025, the fan is still going strong. Everything I wrote in the Pros and Cons still holds true. It's gotten constant use this summer, and I'm still very pleased. The lowest setting is still silent, the medium setting is still very quiet but not silent, and the turbo setting is still not annoyingly noisy. Pros: This fan has been in constant use for the last 3 weeks, rarely shut off. It's still quiet and I'm very pleased with it. It's very simple and easy to put together, even without instructions, especially if you've assembled an electric fan before and are familiar with the basics of how they generally fit together. And if you haven't, there are instructions in the box. No tools required. The lowest setting is virtually silent, even standing directly in front of the fan, which is a really excellent feature. The air flow is gentle and steady, and would probably not keep you awake either. The next setting is not noisy, it's just not silent, but it's very quiet, with a more noticeable air flow. The highest (Turbo) setting isn't noisy either, as fans go these days, but it's the noisiest setting on this fan. It provides the highest air flow, which is perfectly fine as long as you're sitting nearby (within 6') and not across the room. The fan feels sturdy. There's nothing distracting about the way it looks or sounds, so it's easy to forget it's even there. It rotates quietly, sweeping 180 degrees. Cons: It is not the most powerful fan on the market. It is expensive, and could probably be sold at a lower price, but I did not feel ripped off or cheated. Summary: It works really well. I would buy another one if I needed another fan. I have several "Comfort Zone" fans that are around the same size, and are more powerful, but they are noticeably louder. In my opinion, the very best fan, which is slightly larger than the "Comfort Zone," is the Lasko fan, but I haven't been able to find that model this year. The Lasko is a very powerful fan, but it is also noticeably louder than the Rowenta fan. If you can afford to splurge a little, and really need a silent fan to set on your bed-side table or your desk, I would really recommend the Rowenta.

Buy a CR2032 battery when you buy this fan.
It shipped in an oversized Amazon box, and I could not imagine what I had bought. The fan is inside that box inside a third box, the Rowenta box. NOTE - Be careful not to toss the remote when you unpack the fan, and don’t bother looking for the battery, because they don’t include one. I have taken apart other floor fans to clean, so I was familiar with putting this type together. Very easy, just take your time. The only tool you will need is a smaller Philips head screwdriver for the screw that tightens the cage around the blades. When on Silent Night mode it is VERY quiet - 35dBA. My dishwasher is 39 dBA, and one of the quieter ones on the market. Also, I am sitting about 10 feet away from it in that mode, and I am still feeling the gentle breeze. I love the remote, but was totally annoyed that I had to order that CR2032 button battery for it. You can use the fan without the remote. All the same features are on the fan. It is not right that they don’t make the point that the buyer needs to supply the battery clear when you buy this fan. They make all sorts of other suggestions to buy other products “frequently bought together”, so why not something you really need ? It was annoying to have get back on to Amazon, place another order, and to wait for another delivery to test the remote out. By the way, there is a different floor fan by Rowenta, VU5870 that DOES come with the battery. It costs about the same (got mine on sale), but it looks different, and the base and stand are all white. Had I given this as a gift in the middle of a heat spell, the battery issue would have really ticked me off. This fan will be easy to clean, and hopefully the motor won’t burn out like my old fan by a different manufacturer. The Rowenta is much nicer, and has more features. If a fan can be stylish, in my opinion this one is. It shows a remote replacement for sale on Rowentausa.com for $17.10. Model number is CS-00139696, but they want $14.99 to ship it ! I found other sources on eBay for less. Amazon does not sell this exact one from my search. I know that there is a spot to store the remote on the top of the fan, but I will keep it next to me, not on the fan, and it would be nice for two people to be able to have a remote or a spare. I knocked one star off and gave it a 4/5 because of the battery, and also because Amazon does not sell a replacement remote-that I could find.

This is a Very Good Fan
My search for a quiet fan led me, finally, to this fan. It was the only one that really claimed to be very quiet. Mission accomplished. On the lowest setting, I can watch something while others are sleeping. The fan sound, at 35 dB, is not an issue. I have it near my head, and don't hear anything. My hearing is quite excellent, thank you very much. It does get louder as air movement increases; but it is not a roaring, rattling sound. It is the sound that is made by moving air, not the sound of poorly designed machinery. Air movement is beyond criticism. The fan looks much better than I thought it would. I could easily write ten pages on the virtues of this fan; but others have written many long reviews. You have to like something a lot or to hate it to write a long review. Negative reviews for this fan fall into several categories for me. Unrealistic expectations is my first choice. If you want something that you can knock around, use in the garage, and abuse; or if you like to ignore instructions, this is not the fan for you. Maybe Harbor Freight has something cheap, heavy, and old-tech with a large dose of unreliability that can work for you. If you are not good at reading instructions, or are in a hurry, or are under the influence, or assemble things by slapping them together, you will do yourself a favor by letting someone else assemble the fan for you. It really is easy; but you will do best if you have the touch. Yes, it is easy to break the small parts if you are not careful. Frankly, the weakest point of the fan is the instructions, both for assembly and operation; but if you slow down and read them carefully, and think it through, they are adequate. If you insist on moving the fan around without regard to its construction, do not be surprised if it does not hold up. I am talking to the folks who buy fine glassware and end up with most of it broken after a few years. This fan is a technical achievement. You take care of it like you do anything of value. Some people have a vinyl or CD collection that looks like new after many years. This is the fan for those people. Some folks use their music collection as frisbees, coasters, Salvador Dali models, and random floor decorations. This is not the fan for them. someone criticized the fan because the mount broke. If you move it around, hold the handle and also hold the base upright rod that the fan mounts to. The base is very heavy for a reason. The second weak point of the fan is that it should not be moved around a lot by simply picking it up by the handle. This applies only to the floor model. I can't speak for the desktop model. Just support it carefully like you would anything else of value that you own. The concept should not be revolutionary; but some folks think that a fan can be hauled around like a toolbox. Some can; but you can usually hear them running in the other room. The control panel on the fan deserves special mention. It is intuitive, effective, beautiful, and easy to see and manipulate. The unusual angle is actually easy to fall in love with for its looks and functionality. I, as a person who embraces the technological achievements of recent years, do not have a problem with LED lights. The very well-designed set on this control panel seems quite appropriate to me. If you can't stand light, you have options; but don't expect the rest of the world to miss out on the benefits of great design because you haven't figured out how to get to sleep. If you are going to have a pillow fight or a wild party, put the fan in a safe place. It is not designed to the standards of a soccer net. As an industrial engineer and an electronics hobbyist, I appreciate this fan for many other reasons; but I don't want this review to become a tome. I will say that I purchased it as much out of curiosity as out of hope that it might actually meet expectations. The German design gave me confidence. A few hours after a flawless assembly process, thorough testing, and evaluation, I ordered another one. When I saw that the price had dropped significantly, I changed my order quantity to two. Somebody actually complained about a price decrease in one of the reviews. This fan, according to the instructions is not for extremely humid locations. They also say to use a dry cloth to clean it. Based on some complaints about a rusty protective grid, that seems like sound advice. Final note: disassembly for cleaning. I see no reason why disassembly should result in damage to the cage or the plastic ring that holds it together, or to the rather delicate plastic attachment hardware. When you clean your stemware, it requires more careful handling than your coffee mug. This fan will not weather the process like one of the other cheap fans that are available everywhere. On the other hand, it is not as difficult and delicate as tying fishing flies or handling rare stamps.

A Little Louder Than Predecessor
This is a great fan. It pushes the most air of any pedestal fan, by far, and is super quiet, though I find its predecessor (VU551) to be slightly more quiet. Something to note on these fans... There is a knob on the lower part of the motor housing, below the controls on the rear side, to keep the neck with the controls stable. If you move the fan around, make sure to ALWAYS pick it up below that knob, from the silver extension piece. My older fan's knob broke from lifting it by the curved control area. So grab the pipe instead if you want to avoid that. I know people complain of rust, but I would routinely take apart the cage, bring it outside and hose off the dust. I let it air dry and never had a rust issue. The "silent sleep mode" is basically useless. It lowers the fan so much to be silent, that there's hardly any breeze. The fan is plenty quiet on it's own on the low setting. Even though this fan performs well, it is cheaply made. It looks nice, but all of the plastic parts wear down and are easy to break. So be extra gentle when handling it. Is it worth the price? Yes, for around$100. Amazon routinely adjusts the price, so keep an eye out. I caught it at $95 a week ago. Now it's up to $165 again, from $135 a few days earlier. Fall/Winter are definitely the best times to catch a deal on this fan. We live in a disposable society, so don't expect it to last forever. My last one lasted 5 years and most of the parts are the same. You WILL NOT find a better performing fan that is this quiet. It's not like a Lasko fan that sounds like a tornado. The "turbo" mode on this fan is more quite than the low setting on my Lasko pedestal fan. You get what you pay for, just don't over pay.
