Good read
Nice factual account of training in the Rhodesian army, the ups and downs, of barracks room life and intense yet often seemingly pointless tasks one is given. A good bit of history.

Good easy read
Good easy read. National Service (Conscription) for a fixed period saw this young school teacher selected to under go Officer Cadet School in Gwelo now known as Gweru. The book focuses around the course with its ups and downs. It brought back memories although I missed National Service by signing up to be a regular for five years.

Nostalgia
An accurate narrative of life at the School of Infantry during Rhodesian times. A very entertaining read.

I can strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in the life of ...
By Peter S. - Published on Amazon.comI have just finished this very well written, detailed account of the author's experiences at the Rhodesian School of Infantry - a read that took me back 44 years in time. As a T.F. cadet myself, my immediate thought was "where in the world did he find time to keep such a detailed journal?"Sandy Sanderson has accurately captured the entire range of emotions that we experienced; from the OSB selection process through to that final nail-biting moment when we finally learned what our fates would be.I can strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in the life of a territorial soldier during the Rhodesian war years, but especially to all former S.Inf cadets. Reading the book, I found myself with an almost permanent grin on my face as I remembered running up the kopje, doing guard duty in the guti (I hated that greatcoat!), and cleaning up the mess in the mess after our initiation.Congrats Sandy on an excellent effort and thanks for the memories!

A great read
Loved reading this personal account of Sandy's time in the Rhodesian Army. Particularly enjoyed the non Army references to time spent on leave, in the bar and playing Rugby. The strength of the Prince Edward's School community frequently comes shining through-what a school spirit there must have been in that place. A very easy read and told me plenty more about Sandy than I knew already in our almost 30 year association. Congratulations on this one Sandy-what next, tales of the Maths classroom?

Funny, passionate and true.
Packed with dry humour and written with obvious passion. What those officer trainees had to endure every day made me feel quite exhausted just reading about it. Those of us with some military experience will readily relate to this.I'd recommend it to anyone.
