The Thermo Scientific Orion 9320BN half-cell calcium ion selective electrode (ISE) has a plastic membrane sensor for measuring the calcium (Ca+2) concentration in water softening systems, boiler feed water, drinking and mineral water, food, clinical analysis samples, and other aqueous solutions. This half-cell electrode is for use with a single-junction reference electrode (sold separately) in general applications. Its corrosion-resistant PVC body has a replaceable sensor module that is sealed and filled with an electrolyte solution gel for minimal maintenance. The sensor module contains the membrane sensor and screws into the body so it can be replaced when a new sensor is needed. The ISE has a measurement range of 40,100 to 0.02 parts per million (ppm) as Ca+2 and 100,000 to 0.05 ppm as CaCO3 (1 to 5E-7M). The main interfering ions are Pb+2, Hg+2, H+, and Sr+2 as well as higher concentrations of Fe+2, Cu+2, Ni+2, NH4+, Na+, Tris+, Li+, K+, Ba+2, Zn+2, and Mg+2. The electrode operates in temperatures ranging from 0 to 40 degrees C (32 to 104 degrees F) and is recommended for use in solutions with pH ranging from 2.5 to 11. It is 12mm in diameter and 110mm long, and has a 1m cable with a Bayonet Neill-Concelman (BNC) connector for attaching to meters with a BNC connection. ISEs respond selectively to ions in the presence of other ions, and are commonly used for water testing and analyzing biological samples in hydroponics, aquaculture, and agriculture, among other applications. An electrode, also called a sensor or probe, is an instrument used with a meter to test and measure parameters of a substance. Ion selective electrodes (ISEs) respond selectively to ions in the presence of other ions. Electrodes are commonly used by researchers, manufacturers, and hobbyists in a wide variety of industries, such as aquaculture, agriculture, chemistry, food and beverage, wine-making and water-testing, and for scientific applications. An electrode can be used with a datalogger to assist in temperature measurement.
