An essential guide for living your life more safely for everyone - but especially older adults
The ever increasing lack of exercise or natural use of the body in Western society has resulted in poor balance issues for far too many people as they age. 55 Essential Balance Exercises for Seniors is an essential guide for anyone desiring to live their life better, healthier and with less worry - not just older adults. The book begins with an explanation of the body's various systems that work in tandem to create proper balance. It then goes on to stretching, standing and sitting exercises, core exercises and walking exercises. The next section comprised of exercises for vertigo is a phenomenal addition because so many, particularly as they age, develop this condition at some point even if only for a short duration. The last group of exercises is floorwork or movements lying prone on the floor. The book then goes on to discuss diseases that cause balance issues and suggests specific exercises more helpful with those conditions. The last section of the book maps out weekly exercise routines. The exercises are simple and easy to do. Some of the exercises have line drawing illustrations while others have barcodes to scan for links to short videos showing proper form and movement. I greatly appreciated the hot links combined with the barcodes to the videos. My only suggestions for an updated edition are barcodes with hotlinks, or line drawing illustrations, for all 55 of the exercises plus the inclusion of some eye exercises.55 Essential Balance Exercises for Seniors is a well written and excellent handbook for any person to better their daily life. This book just may be the one thing between you and a bad fall. Anyone would do well to have this book as a daily companion for achieving a more graceful and balanced life! Of course, before beginning any exercise routine, consulting your physician might be in order. What are you waiting for?

Balance Exercises for Older Adults
I can tell you that when I get up in the morning, I have difficulty walking across the room. My balance just isn’t what it use to be. As the author explains, due to weakened muscles, falling is a real problem for older adults, but having an exercise plan can help you overcome balance issues. The author will help you create a workout plan so you don’t let your balance deteriorate. The author explains how the brain works to keep us balanced. But as we age, the fear of falling is real for older adults, so you want to do what you can to reduce the risk. The author provides exercises to maintain strength and balance, which you should add to your daily routine. Stretching daily lowers the chance of falling. He will show you exercises that strengthen the legs, which will help you go up and down stairs. If you develop a strong core, you will keep your equilibrium strong and remain well-balanced. He explains that if you do start to stumble, touch your ear to recenter yourself and keep yourself balanced.Dizziness and Vertigo increase in individuals above 65 years of age due to inner ear infections. He explains there are various exercises and maneuvers you can do to improve it. The author discusses diseases in older people. If you have Parkinson’s disease, you can use exercise to improve your motion and balance. Also, exercising to improve your balance after a stroke can help. The author provides example exercises you can use to create a weekly workout schedule, which he recommends you do weekly, which will help prevent you from slipping and falling. I definitely recommend this book for older adults like myself to keep themselves healthy and well-balanced in their golden years.

A fairly good basic guide to balance exercises.
Even though I am well into my senior years and have been a workout fanatic for more than 7 decades I am still open to new or different approaches to fitness and balance exercise routines. I also have several medical issues that affect my balance skills but still do intense 6 days a week workout in the pool. This is why when I saw this 142-page soft cover book (55 essential balance exercises for seniors: a simple senior-friendly guide to fall prevention, improving strength, stability and posture & living a more independent life) on Amazon I decided to purchase it.As always, the delivery service was great. I was looking forward to reading this book and it does have a lot of practical and wonderful exercises; however, in my opinion, it lacked illustrations for all the movements explained in this book. Yes, it does include a “scan me illustration to access the videos”, but not everyone is into cell phone scanning, so this was worthless to me.In spite of these issues and flaws I did find this to be a good manual for any senior citizen who desires to achieve better balance and overall fitness. This book is organized into ten parts and includes the following: “The basics of balance start with a stretch, standing strong, sitting in strength, strong to the core, watch your step, verti-go away, floor work, diseases that cause balance issues in seniors, and the plan.”Even though I was familiar with most of the movements and exercises I did like this manual because it provided an enormous amount of practical and informative advice for seniors and anyone who has balance issues.Rating: 4 Stars. EXCELLENT!
As I’m getting older and my body is changing, I certainly need more direction with exercising. This book is an excellent resource and the video examples are a wonderful bonus (like a cherry on top). It’s easy to understand and follow along. I would recommend this book as a great gift to anyone wanting to exercise, especially seniors. (LaCynthia, Travis’ Mom)
