Q: Can the suction be used in massage mode, so the machine pumps the cups continuously, or is it just for the one-time suction?

Yes, b/c when you turn the machine on, the air movement is constant to create suction. You control the amount of suction/intensity with a valve you hold your finger over (located at the end of the hose). For a massage, you would suction it about "halfway" and are able to move the cup around. If you want to have suction and leave the cups on the body, your finger covers the valve for longer and then you remove the cup from the suction hose attached to the machine.

Q: what do you suggest for a learning tool for using this machine? a book? video?

First I bought another brand as the tubing was damaged and I could not get ahold of the company to replace it. Having said thst you will get best results if you take a lymph drainage class or two and some accpuncture classes and putbthe two together to get results. Be careful as you can cause damage. There are some good videos on youtube. It all depends on how you understand the concept and what are the results you want, move lymph, break up fascia, deep work, light work, work on meridians, so it really depends on your understanding of the body.
