Expensive, but you pay for quality
Quality scale with added functionality; Weight, Heart Rate, hydration, muscle and fat readings and more each accessible via the app. Easy to set up, so far battery life is fine. It's quite large for a scale so be aware.

Excellent for monitoring your health
These are excellent scales and give a plethora of information which helps maintain a healthy life. If I have one minor complaint - I have restricted eyesight and at times the display can be difficult to read

Practical, Functional and Luxurious - but overkill?
I recently purchased the Withings Body Comp smart scale (£189), positioned between their entry-level Body Smart (£79) and premium Body Scan (£300). After about two days of use, I can confidently share my experience with this sleek but pricey health gadget.First impressions are impressive - the packaging rivals Apple's attention to detail, with a beautiful black glass finish. However, be warned: this surface is a fingerprint and water splash magnet, especially in bathroom environments. While aesthetically pleasing, it's primarily a functional device.NOTE - You need a smartphone to use this scale - at least for initial setup. It's not a simple 'step on and go' device like your typical mechanical bath scale. You use the Withings App on your phone to set up a 'profile' - which recognises your typical weight, blood pressure, body mass, etc.CRUCIAL SETUP TIP: If you're using this on a medium or thick pile carpet or rug, the included plastic feet are absolutely essential. Without them, readings can be off by up to 15kg! If using it on a hard floor, no need to use the plastic legs. Also, note that this scale only works with older, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks using WPA2 security - no 5GHz support. This should not generally be of concern to you though, as most home internet have 2.4Ghz wi-fi. Because the scale has no keyboard (just a push/confirm button on the back) setup requires generating a QR code through your phone app, which might challenge less tech-savvy users. Bluetooth connection is available as a simpler alternative. To setup a profile, basically:Download the Withings Health Mate app from Apple App Store or Google Play Store, create an account, and then follow the on-screen prompts to pair your scale and enter your personal information. Your Scale will show a qr code on its display, Scan that qr code with your phone app, and boom ! - you're registered! It sounds a bit of a palava, but it's really not so bad and can be done in minutes.CRUCIAL TIP TWO: KEEP STILL - When weighing yourself, you have to firmly and evenly step on the scale, keep your balance/weight distribution (don't lean on one fit/hand on hips) and allow for the scale to settle. Do not move or jiggle about. It will eventually find your 'typical' weight, and tie it with your profile/name you setup initially. If you can, do not wear (heavy) jogging sweatpants, socks, or unnecessary clothing - the scales are that sensitive.PRACTICAL USAGE:The scale runs on four AAA batteries - slightly disappointing given the price point, I would have expected USB charging in this day and age. But still, the batteries last long enough (over 12 months) so no complaints there. The only thing is, old batteries left in devices for months on end can leak. Anyway, once configured, the measurements are impressively accurate, matching readings from my GP's office scales. The scale tracks comprehensive metrics including weight, BMI, body fat percentage, muscle mass, bone density, and even vascular age - again, this could be overkill, but it's luxury to have.Health tracking integration is seamless, especially with Apple Health. The app interface is notably superior to competitors like Omron Evolve. Multiple user profiles (up to 8) are automatically recognised - when a user steps on the scale, it will auto-detect that persons particular health 'footprint' - so it recognises me at 110kg, when my daughter steps on it, it recognises her at 45kg. Very useful. But if you do something non-standard - like try to weigh a suitcase, it will measure it, but not register that particular weight reading to a profile. The scale even displays weather and air quality (though these features feel somewhat superfluous). The 'Eyes-Closed Mode' is a thoughtful accessibility feature that provides audio feedback through your smartphone when weighing yourself. This is particularly useful for those with 'white-coat syndrome' who get fearful about it showing them their not making gains, or for visually impaired users or anyone who might have difficulty reading the scale's display in low-light bathroom conditions. The measurements are clearly spoken, eliminating the need to look down at the display while maintaining balance on the scale. Overall, a neat little feature that helps reduce weigh-in anxiety by allowing users to focus on maintaining proper posture on the scale without being immediately confronted by visual readings.SUMMARYValue Assessment: At £189 (bought in Jan 2025), it's undeniably expensive for a scale. However, if you're serious about health tracking and appreciate detailed metrics, it's a worthy investment. It does actually make you use it and engage more, which actually works to get you into the mindset of improving your health! The build quality is excellent, measurements are reliable, and the app ecosystem is robust. Just be prepared for some initial setup hurdles.PROS:- Accurate measurements compared to medical readings- Comprehensive body composition analysis (weight, fat%, muscle mass, bone mass)- Excellent app integration with Apple Health- Multiple user recognition- Clean, premium design- Long battery life (12 months)CONS:- Expensive at £189- Wi-Fi connectivity limitations (2.4GHz only, WPA2)- Battery-powered (4 AAA) instead of USB charging- Setup can be technical- Shows fingerprints easilyVERDICT: A premium smart scale that delivers on its promises but at a premium price. While not for everyone, it's a solid choice for health enthusiasts who will regularly use its advanced features. 4/5 stars - losing one star for the price point and setup complexity. UPDATE: 4 MONTHS LATER, I am still using it, and it still functions as beautifully as ever. Water splash marks can be easily wiped off, leaving it looking just as shiny brand new. If anything, the price i've paid for this motivated me to really use it and get the most out of it - which has resulted in me seeing a continuous trend of weight loss as I'm actively working on my health and using this expensive item every few days or so to get the most out of spending so much on this thing!. So psychologically, this has actually helped and motivated me to lose weight. All in all, i'd say - If you're serious about losing weight and forking out so much on this, it will eventually be worth it.

Can't get a body composition measurement!
Despite 2 weeks of emails back and forward to Withings I have still not been able to get a body composition measurement on these "body composition" scales. Despite trying various resets, wetting feet etc, been told "excessive dryness and callouses on the feet can prevent the measurements from working"Will be returning for a refund!Expensive and not functioning!

Great motivator
I am using this while I am doing the fast keto 800 diet. It is a great motivator to see the weight come off daily. It also tracks fat and muscle mass so you can keep an eye on these too.

App is waste of time
The scale is pretty good but measures vary widely. The problem is the app is really shaky and unrealiable. It keeps on dropping measures, not working properly, and messing up results as a consequence. You start to track your measures then all of a sudden the app doesn't provide half of them. This makes the app less than worthless. ON top of that there is no customer support. YOu can't contact withings - it is all useless chatbots that can't answer questions - and if you do get a human they have no idea what is going on as they are there to sell stuff. This is a major failing with what should be a good product. In principle the product is missold because you cannot track your measurements the way withings promises you can. This needs to be addressed, along with customer service, as misselling by a company like withings is a serious matter.

Worth every Penny
These scales are fantastic, expensive though they may be. My husband uses them and it motivates him to lose weight and gain muscle. They are great.

Informative scales
The fact you can track how your weight is doing on your phone, and also see the %of fat and weight has encouraged me to keep up with the diet but also be healthy with the right % of muscle/fat.
