Drifters Omnibus Volume 1

History meets fantasy
Shimazu Toyohisa, a samurai fighting in the battle of Sekigahara in 1600, is on the verge of death when he suddenly finds himself in a door lined corridor and confronted by a strange man. Before he can discover what's happening Toyohisa is sent to a fantasy world of elves, goblins and dragons where he meets the famed samurai Oda Nobunaga and the archer Nasu no Yoichi. In this world they are known as Drifters and along with other famous warriors from various points in Earth's history they must fight the Ends, warriors from Earth with mysterious powers who are trying to destroy the world.Created by Kohta Hirano, who previously wrote the excellent `Hellsing' manga, `Drifters' is a greatly entertaining series. The artwork is in Kohta Hirano's brilliantly dark style with lots of blood and gore. The volume also includes some very nice full colour pages at the beginning. The premise of the series is good and although the plot is only in its early stages, it is definitely looking interesting. As you would expect from a manga, there is something of a bias towards Japanese history with the people used and it would have been nice to include a brief bio of the characters for those unfamiliar with Japanese history but they do all seem to be interesting characters. The volume includes a few extras with the usual afterword from the author, a short but funny bonus comic. It remains to be seen if `Drifters' will be as good as `Hellsing' but this is definitely a good start and well worth a full five stars.

5/5 Piece of Art
The quality arrived like new and the manga itself is a great piece of work! Art is great, story seems great for volume 1. If a fan of Hellsing, then you will want this.

Great Follow Up Title Coming From Kohta Hirano
Expectations are high after Kohta Hirano finished his popular manga series Hellsing. I was pleased at what I found in this first volume of Drifters. We can assume by Hellsing that Kohta Hirano has some love for history. After the Major's monologue about blitzkrieg, we also know he does his research. This title took what he did with Hellsing as far as historical references go, and took it to the next level. Drifters introduces famous historical figures from different periods and different civilizations meshing them together into a gore fest. The violence and blood matches Hellsing as the gore factor goes. I don't want to give too many spoilers, but the historical figures take sides in a war to decide the fate of a fantasy world filled with elves, dwarves, and half-men (hobbits?) that are suffering persecution from men. It had great action, characters, dialogue, and a very unique plotline that is sure to please. If you love violence in your Manga you will be pleased with this as well, because the lead protagonist Shimazu Toyohisa is as blood thirsty and vicious as Alucard was from Hellsing.

Olminu→Old Man River, On My NutsO, M, Nなど元の名前に含まれる文字を活用しつつ毎回の如く違う表現で呼んでいて、面白い。(名前弄りの場面では流石にオッパイを示す語は含まれていなかった)多少、人名を読み間違えている箇所があって残念。翻訳時にきちんと調べてから訳して欲しかった。
