I use these with short chains to provide safety chain loops around arms of my photo studio lights and the secure beam that the lights are attached to. Secondary fall protection for the lights is something that I learned to do when learning theater stage lighting practices 65 years ago, and I'm still following this, even though my present photo/video studio is small and in my home and the lights are only 8' above the floor. It's just good for safety, since the common way to hang studio and theater lighting depends on just one bolt, regardless of the light size or weight.

These are good quality S.S. carbiners. Much better than any Al carbiner that I have. But since it uses a snap lock I wouldn't use it for anything that my life would depend on it. But it is perfectly adequate for holding a tarp down.
