Toyota Land Cruiser: The Story of a Legendary 4x4

Although it has some good photographs the book has a number of inaccuracies and has a lack of detail. There's very little information on Toyota engines. A picture of described as showing a V8 petrol engine shows a diesel engine etc. Very little on the 200 series.

The issue with this text is that while it is interesting it has numerous technical mistakes that takes away from the overall quality of explaining the history of the Toyota Land Cruiser. Another issue is that there are no sources. The information in this book can be easily gleaned by collating internet sources. I would not recommend this book for the serious Toyota Land Cruiser enthusiast.

It came damaged with dog eared corners, loose in an amazon padded envelope. Will return and not reorder. Information is grossly incorrect. Obviously I flipped directly to the series of most interest to me, and that's where the eye brow raising started. - Shows a picture of a V8 D4D (Diesel) and the caption says "the mighty V8 petrol engine....aimed at the US Market" - Captions of a 100 series Land Cruiser, only to have shown a Prado, complete with front licence plate script. - Then we have in the 100 series 'section' mentioning the "Land Cruiser V8" and showing a 200 series perched on a bluff. - Again, we see "Europe too saw the 100 series well accepted..." - A picture of a 200 series splashing through a puddle. Once I got to "...able to match what was on offer from competitors like the Range Rover and proved a lot more reliable then some competitors!" I just about threw up. Was there competition at this point? The sales figures did not lie, Toyota at this point had dominated, basically squashing the Land Rover, and certainly for the main reason of being so reliable that there was no comparison. My call is this was rushed to production with very little research. I consider myself a Land Cruiser fan, I've owned every series, but could not continue reading past my initial introduction. This is not "A suitable tribute" as claimed by Mr. Fryatt. Mr. Fryatt does make mention and thanks in the introduction of his editor Sue Loy, who pointed out those mistakes that had passed the author by. You two should have continued to polish a real accurate 'Story of a Legendary 4X4'.

Very short and superficial. Almost nothing inside!

Ok, but not nearly as big or as informative as other Land Cruiser history books and does not include all US model - no mention of 200 series which is current Land Cruiser (2008-)
