First Rate Collection...
The cover of the "Spirit Of The Glen" CD, featuring a bagpiper in full uniformed regalia, might lead the casual observer to think it another collection of bagpipe music. In fact, "Spirit of the Glen" is much more, a collection of 14 diverse and inspirational musical pieces featuring a variety of musical instruments, including the pipes. Some pieces are traditional bagpipe numbers, such as the "Scottish Medley" mixing "The Dark Isle", "Flower of Scotland", and the "Skye Boat Song." Some feature vocals, such as "Mull Of Kintyre" and "Caledonia". Some are reworked show tunes, such as "Dances With Wolves" and the haunting "Last of the Mohicans." The collection opens with an excellent "Amazing Grace 2007" and closes with "The Green Hills of Tyrol."The collection has in common its first reate execution by the regimental band of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, a serving unit with much recent time in the Middle East, and the worthy contribution of bagpipes to each piece. "Spirit of the Glen" is very highly recommended.

This rendition of AMAZING GRACE is the most awesome that I have ever heard. Also, this was the first time that I've ever heard the Pachelbel CANON done with bagpipes, and I think that it is very impressive.I chose this CD over other bagpipe CDs because this one included HIGHLAND CATHEDRAL.I first heard Highland Cathedral while watching the televised farewell ceremonies of the 1997 Hong Kong Handover. The TV commentator said that it was colonial governor Chris Patten's favorite song. It has since become my favorite bagpipe piece. The version played in Hong Kong used only pipes & drums. It sounded so mournful that it brought tears to my eyes. The version on this CD, played with orchestral accompaniment, sounded more powerful and triumphal. It didn't bring tears to my eyes, but it stirred my emotions as well.

Great Album
There is not much I can add to what has already been written here. This is a GREAT ALBUM. I have listened to the RSDG for many years and I somehow missed this gem. This is absolutely not what you expect from what you usually expect from an active military musical group. My wife and I both thoroughly enjoy listening to these great arrangements with lush orchestrations. You owe it to yourself to give it a listen and then add it to your collection.

Great music.
I have deep roots into Scotland on my maternal side of the family. This wonderful music easily bridges my two cultures.

Worthwhile purchase even if bagpipes aren't quite your thing
I bought this album because I listed to a couple of their songs (Amazing Grace, Sailing, Last of the Mohicans) on Pandora. Of course, after listening to the album I realized that these were there three best songs. Don't get me wrong though, this is still a pretty great piece of music. I can't say that I'm a longtime fan of bagpipe music, but you can't deny the emotions and heart that these guys pour into their performances.

Beautiful Blend
This is a beautiful blend of Bag Pipes and various other instruments. I love Massed Pipes and Drums so I wasn't too sure about this, but it has become one of my favorite mellow listening albums.

Missed opportunity
When I first heard this on You Tube, I was taken by the energy and spirit of the track (The Gael-Last of the Mohicans). But having bought the cd and listened to it I was quite disappointed. This, to me, was a meek and mild display. Where was the energy of that You Tube track? This is the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards after all.

The true spirit of Scotland!
There is nothing quite like hearing a regiment of highland pipers playing 'Amazing Grace'. It is truly amazing. The piping on the two movies featured here- 'The last of the Mohicans' and 'Dances with wolves' is awe inspiring. There is something magical about the sound of the pipes. This album brought me closer to my Scottish roots. It is a must have for every Celt. Highly recommended. 5 Stars!

Nice
Great music, really enjoyed, although having bought the whole series there are a lot of repeats and some tracks maybe should not have made it but its the Royal Scots so I am not going to complain.
