Yes, you can use any other melting pot aside from the one that comes with the kit.

Q: How much soap does the pitcher/container hold? 2 lbs, 3 lbs or more?

over 2 pounds, I did two batches from a 5 pound.

Q: Can it be used to keep product around 150°F?

It does have a dial that goes from a low setting to a high setting. You would have to have a thermometer to check temperature. Setting isn't numbered but mark more like a line that starts thin and then gets thicker to indicate raising the temperature.
