Nice Going, Open Farm. I, and my cats, love it, although I'll let them do the eating.
I free-feed Blue Buffalo kibble and have had very good results with it. My last four cats lived to be in their mid-to-late twenties and had few health problems until near the end.I also feed them wet food since that's very important, but that's another review. However, occasionally, I'll mix another premium kibble with the Blue Buffalo, just for a change of pace. Most often, they don't appear to notice that another type of food has been mixed in with their usual regimen since they're okay with eating Blue. However, they definitely noticed the Open Farm Rawmix Open Prairie Recipe.I have two cats, Ella and Bubba. Ella is about 11.5 years old, and Bubba is just over 2 years old.Since I free-feed kibble, they don't tend to get excited about it. It's always there, and they will eat when they are hungry. With the Open Farm kibble, they both showed an interest. They did tend to pick out the lighter kibble, which is the Freeze-Dried Raw Chunks, I believe, to be eaten first, so there was a definite preference for those, but they liked all of it.I'm pretty picky about the foods that I give to my cats. The first ingredient should be meat, fish, or fowl, and there should be no soy, corn, wheat, gluten, or unnamed byproducts.Open Farm easily meets that standard. Generally, about 80% of cat food's ingredients are found in the first four ingredients, which is not to suggest that the rest is unimportant. The first eight ingredients in Open Farm's Open Prairie Recipe are Chicken, Turkey, Menhaden Fish Meal, Peas, Chickpeas, Ocean Whitefish Meal, Herring Meal, and Lentils, and I don't see anything scary in the rest of the list. It all looks like pretty good stuff.Open Farm's ingredients are humanely raised and sustainably sourced, which I don't really care about but don't object to. More significantly, there are no added antibiotics and hormones, the fruits are non-GMO, and they are 100% traceable. Plus, it includes freeze-dried raw ingredients rather than overcooked stuff, which sounds like a good idea. While I won't pretend to know what all of that means, in practice, I approve of it.I will buy this again to mix with the Blue Buffalo kibble, which has worked well as a staple. From what I can see, this would probably be a good choice as a staple.

Health of cat
We have an extremely picky cat, she doesn’t like wet food but drinks plenty of water. We choose Open Farm Raw Mix because it has raw ingredients and bone broth covered kibble. So far our cat has been healthy and happy.

Healthy for my cats
They love it. Although it pricey, it is worth the money if it as healthy as it claims.

Off color freeze dried bits
Previously I’ve only purchased the 2# bags of Open Farms RawMix Prairie and the last 3 bags i ordered from the Open Farm website. The current 8# bag I am reviewing I ordered from Amazon. The freeze dried raw bits are an off color and crumbly in this 8# bag unlike the firm white freeze dried bits in all the other bags of the same food. The manufacture date on the 8# bag is March 2024. This is my reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5.All the other RawMix Prairie I’ve ordered deserves 5 plus stars. My 12 year old cat loves it. About a year ago he would no longer eat the food he had been eating for years and lost too much weight and declined in health. During the year that followed I tried numerous brands of food which he either would not touch or which he threw up and otherwise couldn’t digest. All were grain free.He absolutely loves this RawMix. He has regained weight, digests it without problems and again appears to be a healthy cat with a shiny coat with a healthy appetite. It is a quality food that I am proud to feed my cat.

My cats love it
My cats absolutely LOVE it, they devour it like vacuum cleaners! While it’s on the pricier side, the quality and transparency make it worth every penny. Highly recommend for pet parents who want the best for their pets!

Cat & human approved
My cat is very picky usually but they gobble this food up. She’s on a timed feeding schedule. I love that the company adds dried raw meat pieces because raw is best for cats but it’s such a challenge to incorporate sometimes. I wouldn’t be mad if the company made the food predominantly dried raw meat (hint, hint). But this is by far better than most “kibble” so I’m glad I found it.

My cats didn't like it.
It may be very healthy for cats, but if I can't get them to eat it, it does me no good. It's very expensive which I'm willing to pay had it been more palatable for my cats. I ended up feeding it to the local opossums. This was not intended as an insult but I didn't want to waste the food.

Best I can find on the market
This is quality cat food. Not the ultraprocessed junk food people feed their cats. It costs more but I love my little muffin and want to give her the best. I think you'll be hard pressed to find a better dry cat food, though for this price point I'd be happier if it was certified organic. I've recently transitioned my cat to a fully raw food diet for the wet stuff and cat is thriving. Really makes a difference.
