Treasure Trove of Memorabilia
Very well thought out and presented. Going in strict timeline. Plenty of stuff for Dylan experts as well as new or casual fans. It’s definitely a book I’ll treasure and return to; sends you back to the albums and lyrics. It has a bright and colourful vibe - bit like the wonderful Philosophy of Modern Song.Retro ticket stubs and concert posters a delight.

Worth every penny!
Very good interesting book. I still have a way to go but it's the sort of book you can pick up and read as much or as little as you like. So much of Dylan's history I would recommend it to any fan of his.

Superb and still only the beginning
If you don't know, Bob Dylan is a genius. He deserved his Nobel because he is the most literate member of the rock pantheon. He might be musically primitive. He might be politically naif, but he seems to be someone never satisfied with his own art, forever exploring the possibilities that the song form presents, including redefining his own greatest hits.Having said that, if you want to know the Dylan story, this is not your starting point. If you have absorbed the words and music of Bob Dylan into your very being over the six decades since "Blowin' In The Wind" then this is the book for you. Expensive and weighty it might be, but it honours its subject as a true artist, revealing the workings of the man and his scraps of paper. For me, those little snippets of songs in gestation are the best parts, but the text is respectful of the man's brilliance. If you don't believe Dylan warrants this genuflection, go away now and listen to Blood On The Tracks now. There must be a downside? Well, it is in the modern tradition of expensive books that are an event in themselves (McCartney's Lyrics springs to mind) so you might want to watch out for deals. If there is a paperback edition of this book it won't be able to reproduce the splendour of the hardback so I would strongly recommend sticking with the hardback. Any hardcore Dylan fan will not be disappointed (I know, there's always someone who will moan but I find it hard to see why). There is an accompanying CD/LP (bought separately) that weirdly lets Dylan down. This might be for the hardcore Dylan fan only, but also people interested in the artistic process. If we had something similar for Shakespeare or Milton it would be a treasure for generations. So, I hope, will this volume be.

What you got?
Exhaustive, definitive, thorough, complete - just a few of the superlatives directed at this work. Yet it identifies James Joyce on page 497, as ‘an English modernist’. Is that cultural appropriation, lazy research or just plain ignorance?
