Base Three synthetic
A good price for a reasonable synthetic. It's not the energy saving type you so often find (there's no energy conserving sticker to prove that) so perfectly safe in a wet clutch motorcycle. It isn't Mobil 1 Motorsport 15-50 which is a full synthetic base 4 stock, but the '5' bit of the spec means it'll thin out to operating viscosity fast, which is good for engine longevity and the '40' bit is what my vehicles require when hot. As a bonus, the superior cleansing abilities of synthetic means that in a healthy engine, sludge, burned oil deposits and build-ups of carbonized mineral oil in centrifugal oil traps are cleaned out after a couple of oil changes. No different to many synthetics but a good price. It's good stuff.

needed a good quality 5/W50 oil and...
Was looking for some good quality oil and I normally choose Mobil1 for my cars but this stood out as much better value. So far so good and I cannot imagine why I would pay so much more next time around. I love changing my cars engine oil frequently and don't know of any engine failures due to a bad oil. I mean how much different can an oil be - I'd imagine all modern oils are good quality and as said I think frequent changing is the key to a smooth running engine.UPDATE SEPT/2014: The price was under £20 when I brought it last year (Sept. 2014) and now it has risen to above £25 so perhaps not the same excellent value. Please check around first!?

Reasonably Priced for a Quality High Performance Oil
Comma are a well known brand in racing circles but does not dominate the high street. The pricing was very attractive for a fully synthetic 5W-50 oil, and it meets ACEA A3/B3; API SL CF, SAE 5W-40, 10W-40 & 15W-40 specs. I have an old and inexpensive V12 that pushes out 350hp and was designed to run on 5W-50 synthetic Castrol. This is no longer made and the modern Castrol Edge is twice the price of the Comma.I was happy to give Comma a go and it looks good so far, no change in colour after a few thousand miles.

Great for value oil, EXCELLENT for the cold weather but failed to meet my expectations on the track!
I did some background research on Comma, found the reason for it's low price is because it is locally manufactured in Kent! Where bigger brands such as Mobi 1 and Castrol come from their respecting countries which had to be imported to the UK hence the increased retail price.I originally ran 10w50 and 15w50 in my Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R and for street use it was okay, no issues once warmed up however, upon start up, the car took about 5-10 seconds to reach maximum oil pressure on cold start. I decided to buy Comma's 5w50 because of its low cost price and thought since the winter was coming, there was no harm in doing so.Once I have done this change, upon cold start, the car's oil pressure reached the maximum 8kg/cm on the gauge instantly. Once warmed up it maintains around the 2-5kg/cm mark and never drops below that as it should. The car's engine oil also got up to operating temperature (above 70c) much quicker. Where was the 10w/15w takes at least 20 minutes, Comma's 5w only took 10-12 minutes.Comma's 5w50 is certainly most suitable as a winter time oil, I will definitely use this oil every time for my end of year service (usually around September/October).My main and only issue I had was that, when I took my Skyline on the Nurburgring; the famous racing track in Germany. Only half a lap in, the oil gets too hot (135c+) and will not cool down, even if I drove it more tamed.I also notice it does get dirty relatively quickly cira 1000 miles. Probably because I run the oil hotter than other users who have use Comma oil. So I don't believe its a fair test of comparison but still worth mentioning given the conditions.I will first switch to 10w60 and see if this fixes my temperature issue. If it doesn't, I will install a large 33 row oil cooler and report back and update my review if this solves my oil temperature issue. As then I cannot fault the oil for its temperature performance.
