Succession: Season One: The Complete Scripts

One of my best TV writing books.

If you are a fan of the series and are interested in the mechanics of script writing this is a fantastic read. I could see all the action happening in my head but also got to pick up on those witty oneliners that are thrown out so quickly on TV that I missed most of them the first time round! The notes by Jesse after each script are fascinating, offering a glimpse into lines or storylines that were cut or moved, and I wish there had been more of them. The written directions are fascinating, revealing what the characters are feeling which is usually at variance with what is being said. Jesse also explains that there would often be alternative lines written on the day which would all be filmed so they had the option to see which one worked the best. More insider snippets like this would have been great, but I have to rate the book 5/5 as the quality of the writing and the drama is so high. I purchased the Kindle version due to reviews saying the size of the book was a bit unwieldy and it was a very comfortable read as well as being cheaper! Now on to the next series...

The content of the book is great but the build of the actual book means that around the midpoint for about a hundred pages it becomes hard to keep open and read.
