My favorite part of this book where the case studies
Psychopaths: Up Close and Personal: Inside the Minds of Sociopaths, Serial Killers and Deranged Murderers by Christopher Berry-Dee was incredible, eyeopening and will absolutely make it hard for you to get a wink of sleep. This book is eerily real, and will make you think twice about everyone you've ever encountered. Maybe it's just the crowd I run with, maybe it's just how my mind works, but I couoldn't help taking a few of these cases and seeing a few similarities to people whoms paths i've crossed in this life. My favorite part of this book where the case studies, although, these are most likely what will keep you up at night. The author does a great job of allowing you to understand the psychology of these killers. What's crazy to me is that he has had correspondence with them! I don't know if I could really stomach that. Some of these killers are pretty psychotic and gruesome. For anyone who is into understanding or at least learning more about psychopaths, this is a great book. I also highly recommend it for anyone you may think may show signs of being one :P

Interviews Between the Author and Some of the Worst Serial Killers in History Make This Book Very Insightful
Interesting and insightful view of the lives, crimes and mind of some of the worst serial killers. This book describes the early lives and events leading up to the horrific crimes of serial killers. Some of the killers have so many crimes that the author can only list them without going in huge detail of each and every one. The author basically is able to describe the first or worst crime of each killer then just lists brief descriptions of the other crimes committed by each. I like that the book is written this way because hearing about the killers life, his or her worst crime, and then interviews thereafter, you get a well-rounded view of the killer without having to get into too gory of details about so many murders. The interviews between the killers and the author of the book are the best part because these, compared to the early lives and then the crimes of these killers, give the best, though brief, view of the mindset of the killers

A Thorough Investigation
I appreciate a first person author who can give facts without pressing their personal theologies into the dynamic. This is one of those excellent reads chopped full of backed, multiple sources and references to fact ONLY. I found myself quickly burning through pages and highlighters! A highly recommended read!

I recommend this book strongly to anyone who has an interest ...
Psychopaths: Up Close and Personal: Inside the Minds of Sociopaths, Serial Killers and Deranged Murderers by Christopher Berry-Dee was a fascinating look into the history and minds of psychopaths, BUT it did NOT give me nightmares! I recommend this book strongly to anyone who has an interest in various famous murderers but is concerned that the subject matter will be too upsetting. Christopher Berry-Dee does a remarkable job of getting into the details of each case he reviews without making the read itself terrifying. Sure, these are scary people, but the process of learning about them doesn't have to be! The book starts of with a discussion of the term "psychopathy," the PCL-R Checklist and the history of murderers, before delving into a series of case studies. Christopher Berry-Dee relies on his own personal wealth of knowledge and experience researching and writing about these killers, as he has been interviewing and corresponding with many of "the greats" for decades. Definitely a worthwhile read if you're interested in the subject matter.

monsters
I had nightmares after reading not even a complete story. It's hard to imagine or comprehend humans being so evil.

I listen to podcasts (my favorite murder, etc
Up Close is scary and fascinating and perhaps just a touch too far down the rabbit hole for me! I listen to podcasts (my favorite murder, etc.) and I’ve read a few of the traditional serial killer books, but nothing like this. There were several lesser-known individuals, so that was good to not go over well traveled ground. The author goes through the lives of each serial killer with a bit of narration of their lives from beginning to end, adding forensics and actual interviews with the killers. To be honest I can’t read it every day, it’s not the kind of thing I want to be in mind constantly.

MONSTERS AMONG US
Interesting insight into the minds and attitudes of serial killers, often in their own words.Indications of childhood experiences that may have influenced their behavior as adults. The author interviewed the serial killers to clarify any questions he may have had in order to write his book.
