Outstanding
Can write as I find and being a closed back was expecting a slightly muffled sound I usual listen through sen hd600 ovation or a Philips fidelio pair both great via headphone amp or just hifi but I get nothing but moans and groans as noise leakage, so the bowers phones came, nicely packaged and a really good quality case, I got the blue colour just because of the price difference bit of a no brainer, well we are about 6 months in now I find build quality great no issues at all, comfort on my big head even when wearing glasses great, battery life is amazing and sound is just another level to my ears, my sons run Sony wm5 and bose both came in more more expensive than the bowers although they were on a great offer for the colour but we are all in agreement they smash the other headphones in every way, if they broke tomorrow I would totally without hesitation just replace with the same like for like. Outstanding in every respect.

Just astounding headphones.
I have used Sony's noise cancelling headphones for years now. I wanted to upgrade from the Mx4's and I was all set to get the Mx5's until I looked around at alternatives. I plumped for the Bowers & Wilkins ones primarily because (in my opinion) sound quality should always be the first priority for reasonably expensive headphones. And given that the company is an top end audio company I felt that they may know a bit about that. Yeah, apparently compatibility, active noise cancelling and comfort are all hugely important, but if all those are there and the sound quality isn't up to scratch then I'm put off immediately. Luckily these are impressive all round. I'd say Sony's ANC is slightly better and their app is also magnificent, but the comfort of the B & W is top notch, the clamp of the headphones is barely noticeable and the headband is nicely cushioned. You can listen to wired music via the USB or standard cables and the charging is very quick too. But where it excels is in the sound quality out of the box. There is a 2 band equaliser in the app if people want to fiddle about with bass and treble. I listen to Qobuz as my go to streaming app and also have a large selection of flac music files saved on my phone (via Poweramp). Most genres that I listen to (mainly electronic, trance, indie and jazz) sound wonderfully balanced, but it's the overall clarity that distinguishes these from the Sony's. The sound separation is just jaw dropping. The final tick is in how they look, I got the blue ones and they are very stylish to look at indeed. I have had these over a year now with daily use and no issues. Highly recommended. EDIT. Within a week of this review, both earcup pads have started to come loose, which indicates a glue fail. So I am knocking a star off for this as it should last longer than a year. I will speak to B & W as these should still be under warranty.

Disappointing
Charged the set fully on arrival, connected the usb to 3.5mm cable (supplied) to my media player, but no audio. The instructions on the B&W website state that when the cable is connected, bluetooth turns off and you get audio via the cable. But mine didn't. I checked the bluetooth, audio came through, but doesn't sound as clear and defined as I'd hoped. Reconnected the cable, hoping the bluetooth would turn off and the audio would come through the cable, but no. It just kept telling me audibly to connect with bluetooth. Bluetooth isn't lossless, can never be, so was hoping to just use cable as per the website. Didn't work for me, so it's on it's way back for a refund. Quite disappointing.

Issues with connecting
Really annoying as these are great headphones, when I connected them to my laptop the quality of the sound was great. They look good and feel great to wear. However they refuse to connect to my phone (OnePlus 10T). After some googling there are alot of issues connecting these to android phones of various kinds so be careful

Major connection issues on Android
Could not get these to connect properly on my Google pixel. Even when I connected eventually the sound was pretty average. Muddy bass and thin treble. This may be resolved with a full bandwidth connection but I couldn't get that to work.

Disappointing Downgrade: The PX7 S2 Misses the Mark
I was genuinely excited to upgrade to the new Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2, especially after loving the original PX7 model. Unfortunately, this new iteration feels like a significant step backward. If you're coming from the original PX7, be prepared for some frustrating compromises. The most annoying and frankly unacceptable issue is the frequent connection drops and stuttering. I am using the exact same phone (my reliable companion for years) that I used with the original PX7, which never once gave me a problem. With the PX7 S2, I now experience small, jarring pauses every so often when listening to music. This completely shatters the immersion. It's inconsistent and unpredictable. It turns a premium listening experience into a frustrating struggle. For a flagship wireless headphone, a flaky Bluetooth connection is simply not good enough. Tactile The Invisible Pause Button Bowers & Wilkins seems to have prioritized sleek design over practical usability, and nowhere is this more apparent than with the controls. The Pause/Play button is now practically invisible and has minimal tactile feedback. On the previous PX7, the button was much more noticeable and easier to find by feel. Now, I have to fumble around, often mistaking it for the other controls. In the rush of a commute or when wearing gloves, it's a genuine pain point. This small design change has drastically degraded the user experience and made quick media control unnecessarily difficult.

I bought the Bowers and Wilkins Px7 S2 a couple of years ago, refurbished like new. Its sound is excellent, and its soundstage is good as they claim. However, its microphone was not as good as I had hoped. Fast-forward to 2024, the Sony WH1000MX7 was on sale for nearly 50% off the original MSRP. Of all of the Bluetooth headphones with ANC, it was consistently rated the best or runner-up. Notably, its microphone was well-regarded. I bought one, refurbished like new. I will compare these two as they were contemporaries and direct competitors. My general use cases consist of listening to music while I work, participating in a virtual meeting, and talking on the phone while I do chores around the home. Music on the Bowers and Wilkins is where the headphones shine. The Px7 S2 was reported to have a very neutral sound out of the box. I found that to be very true. Its soundstage magic and clarity of drivers gave each part of the music very good separation. I listened to the Jurassic Park theme song from years ago — don’t judge. It is orchestral with many instruments contributing to the detailed delight of sound. I use this track to sound-check every new pair of headphones I get, so this would have been the sixth or seventh pair of headphones I used to listen to that theme song. For the first time, I heard two or three instruments whereas before I thought there was only one. How did the Sony’s do? They were pristine headphones, but they couldn’t achieve that level of detail and separation. Out of the box, the Sony headphones are said to be a bit bass-heavy. However, the customization feature of the app allowed me to tune the bass to my preferences. Sony partially compensates with its app and five-channel equalizer, but it could not better B&W’s music-playing prowess. For the second challenge, the Px7 S2’s were wasted on video conferencing calls. Yes, my managers never sounded so life-like except when they were in person. My tuned Sony cans were more than capable of reproducing their sound. Sony wins this round, because my colleagues described me as sounding more loud with my Sony’s. And in the final challenge, I switched between the two headphones while taking telephone calls. For the most part, the Px7 S2’s was overqualified in sound production. Background sounds on my end were also filtered out by the mic, except on two occasions when I got ice from my ice dispenser and ripped open a package at chest height. Meanwhile, the Sony sounded just fine, but the ice dispenser was not so annoying at the other end. Other notes: The Px7 S2 has a physical button to toggle on-off. It’s a quick flip of the switch, and within seconds it is connected and ready to go. The Sony’s power button is a press-and-hold button. It’s a little more annoying, because if you hold it too long, it does something else. It takes just as long to get connected. Gone are the days I tell my conversation partner to wait while I get bluetooth connected and have to put on elevator music for them. Of the two designs, I prefer Bowers and Wilkins’s. The Sony headphones rely mostly on touch controls. Although all manner of functions can be done via touch, I can’t remember which gesture does what. The Px7 S2 uses physical buttons for volume control, play/pause, and connect and disconnect. Once more, I prefer the physical controls. Finally, the B&W headphones are noticeably heavier than the Sony ones. If you’re sitting and staying still, the extra weight doesn’t matter. On the other hand, if you’re up and about and turning your head often, the Sony’s feel much more planted on the head. The Sony’s are generally regarded as having better ANC. In my experience around the house, they’re very close. It still surprises me which sounds get through ANC and which don’t. With enough happening around you, the Sony’s seem to block more sound. You can’t go wrong with either pair of headphones. It’s very much up to your preferences. If you like strawberry — I don’t know — go with one of them. If you prefer chocolate, then go with the other one, I’d say. Ok fine. If you want a more feature-filled app or better EQ or better mic or lighter weight => Sony. Sound or materials and style => B&W. How about that?
