Great feeder!
Had a couple of feeders but this is the best by far. It's made of cedar wood as opposed to pine and well made. Came packaged in a box with good care instructions. Very pleased as are the neighbourhood squirrels!

Best Squirrel Feeder on the Market!
We are fortunate enough to live in a red squirrel area, in in supporting our population I've bought just about every feeder on the market. In my opinion, this one is best! First, it's wood. Yes, the metal ones last longer, but who wants to be sitting on a piece of metal during sub-zero temperatures! Second: one of the things not shown in the photos is actually a HUGE selling point... It has a little metal hook that tightens or loosens the grip on the Perspex front. What this means is that when waste gets left at the bottom of the feeder you simply loosen this, remove the Perspex, clean the feeder, and reverse the procedure. SO much easier than having to poke stuff out with a spoon or whatever! Finally, to my knowledge this isn't treated. The vast majority of preservatives on the market are highly toxic - NOT what you want to put food into. Add to that that the feeder is likely to get gnawed a bit by newbies to the feeder trying to figure it out! A couple of other notes for you: Squirrels have lots of food in the early winter, and really only need to top up in very cold weather (they almost bankrupted me in the winter of 2010!). However, a very high proportion of the spring kittens die of starvation during the summer. So please do feed hem during the summer! Make sure your peanuts are certified aflatoxin free, as this fungus in badly stores nuts can cause organ failure and death. This is another good reason for he removable front on this feeder - any nuts going mouldy MUST be removed, as the aflatoxin will be rife! Finally, while they will be eating other stuff when it's available, a lot of peanuts will potentially cause a calcium deficiency. If you get a cuttlefish bone you can nail it beside the feeder, and you can have the fun of watching them eating that too! As an aside, I'd wondered about standard commercial cuttlefish as its bleached, so I went on a journey through uk suppliers of 'native' cuttlefish washed up on the shore and 'allegedly' cleaned. Cuttlefish should really smell of nothing, and I can honestly say ALL of the cuttlefish I got STANK and went straight in the bin, rather than giving the squirrels salmonella poisoning! It's bog standard pet store bought cuttlefish for me now, bleach and all :) I'm just off now to buy another one for elsewhere on the tree, as we've two siblings fighting over the one feeder... Enjoy your squirrels - they'll love this feeder!

A solid feeder but with room for improvement
I do like this squirrel feeder and it looks great in the back garden. Once I'd varnished the feeder and it had fully dried I fitted it to the garden fence and filled it with monkey nuts. The first squirrel discovered it within an hour and happily sat munching away on his newly found treasure. I'm not great at identifying different squirrels just yet but the feeder has seen constant squirrely action from one or more squirrels since installing it. They're costing me a fortune in nuts! Before purchasing I read a lot of the reviews and saw that people generally liked the feeder but it was quite common for the lid and/or sides to get damaged by gnawing. Because I was aware of that I asked my neighbour for a spare bit of metal to create a guard for the front of the lid. He actually went off and made one himself and fitted it. It looks great and the squrrels can still open the lid without issue. What I wasn't aware of is the limited space the squirrels have to stand and feed. My plan eventually is to attach a pine board to the bottom of the feeder to extend it's length and width by a couple more inches. You can see a squirrel nearly falling a couple of times in the video I've posted to this review. I know they're tough little critters and could easily handle a fall from 6ft but I'd rather make them a bit more comfortable when eating. Photo 1: The lovely smelling squirrel restaurant and some grub Photo 2: After applying some yacht varnish to aid protection against the British weather Photo 3: Feeder with the stainless steel lid guard my neighbour kindly made for me The good stuff: 👍 Solid build quality 👍 "Proper" timber. Not the laminated stuff which quickly degrades 👍 Drainage holes in the base 👍 Pleasing to the eye 👍 The lovely smell of freshly cut wood (when untreated/unvarnished of course) 👍 Pretty good hinge mechanism The 'not so good' stuff: 😟 Small base plate for the slightly porkier squirrels to stand on while eating 😟 Lack of reinforcement in the lid and front sides to prolong its life (against eager hungry squirrels) 😟 Only one screw hole for mounting. No screw fix mount on the bottom to stabilise the feeder On the whole I think this is one of the better squirrel boxes and I recommend it but you might want to consider treating the wood and finding a way to reinforce those areas that the squirrels chew at to get access to the goodies inside.

Good product
Simple, basic squirrel feeder that works perfectly. It took the squirrels about 5 minutes to figure out how to use it but the pigeons are totally flummoxed so they can’t steal the food

Popular & regularly used by adorable hairy little ginger figures!
Our reds love this wooden feeder, the wood seems just thick enough top bottom and all sides, which gives it its sturdy durability.. Everyday we replenish with Hazelnuts, Almonds and Sunflower seeds.., it's noteworthy to mention the inside box cavity is always bone dry even on very wet windy days! The only real downside to these 'wooden box squirrel feeders' is that the table stand platform could do with being another inch longer, as they are made rather stuby and short for the squirrels to stand upon whilst feeding... another gripe would be wishing that the cavity of the inside box of feeder was much bigger for more nuts to be stored!! Aside from that, it's a great little 'wooden box squirrel feeder'. I've purchased three since June 2021, and they're all doing the job perfectly.. Personally, prefer the 'wooden box feeders' to the metal type variety ones.. The wooden feeders are more natural and look good compared to the cold, hard metal variety type feeders.. All in all, a brilliant little wooden box feeder for our dearly cherished, very precious woodland reds!!

Great, squirrels love it and so do the pigeons
I got this for my birthday in 2021. It’s been brilliant. About to get another as rays have chewed the lid! The squirrels love it and so do the pigeons sometimes :). Would definitely recommend

My squirrels really liked this feeder and I like it too becuase the birds cant get into it. It took only a few minutes before they figured out how to get in there. Its made well and the hinge is not going to rust. Well it shouldn't at least and if it does a drop of oil will get it working properly. All around love this feeder.
