This is not a "thread". A "Luer" fitting is a standardized system across small-scale fluid fittings to make leak-free connections between two parts. So, no the local machine shop is not going to carry (or know about) these. "Luer lock" is common across medical and laboratory instruments (e.g. syringes, IV pumps), and are described as having a "male" and a "female" part.
